在英語裡，有些單詞，單數和複數形式的中文意思是不同的，小八今天就和大家講講吧！height是high的名詞形式，意思是身高、高度。具體數值的高度，是用...feet/metres in height = a height of...feet/metres 表示。height 還有一個意思是高處、高地，是可數形式，恐高就可以說 a fear of/be afraid of heights。在一些特定的地名中，是用複數形式 heights 表示。the Golan Heights 戈蘭高地

大家都知道clothes是衣服的統稱，是複數形式，但cloth是clothes的單數嗎？clothing又是什麼意思呢？我們就好好區分一下cloth、clothes、clothing三個詞吧！
cloth 一般指布料，這時候是不可數的，一塊布就是 a piece of cloth。但 cloth 也可以指有某種特殊用途的布，又變成了可數名詞。
比如桌布 table cloth、抹布 dish cloth、毛巾 face cloth，可以分開，也可以合成一個詞，要注意哦，這時候覆數形式就變成了 tablecloths、dishcloths 了！
而 clothes 就是指衣服的統稱，本身已經是複數。clothing 也是衣服的統稱，但卻是不可數名詞。clothing 指的是具體某種衣物，或是用在做衣服、買衣服的場合。一件衣服可以說 a piece of clothing，一套換洗的衣物是 a change of clothing。我們都知道 customer 是顧客的意思，custom 也可以表示光顧，是不可數名詞。
custom 更常見的意思是習俗、風俗，是可數的，表示...習俗就可以說 the custom of doing sth，還可以用 It's the custom (for sb) to do sth 表示。
custom 也可以表示習慣，更正式，是以單數形式出現。
複數形式 customs 是有海關的意思，既是指海關部門，也是指我們出國回國時港口和機場的海關。
Smaller shops lose a lot of custom when supermarkets open nearby.
當超市開在附近，小店鋪就會失去很多顧客光顧。
It took ages to clear customs but then we were out of the airport quite quickly.
辦理報關手續是花了很久，但之後我們很快就出了機場。
