1. Help.
用作遇到危險時的呼救語，意為：來人啊! 救命啊! 如：
Help! Somebody! Help! Help! 救命啊!來人啊! 救命啊!救命啊!
Help! Help! A boy is drowning! 救人啊! 救人啊!一個男孩要淹死了!
A：Help! Help! 救命啊! 救命啊!
B：What’s the matter? 出什麼事了?
A：I don’t know. But be quick;let’s go and see what has happened. 不知道，快! 我們去看看出什麼事了。
2. Help yourself.
(1) 用作招呼客人吃東西時的客套話，意為：請隨便吃;請吃……;別客氣。如：
Help yourself, Mr Green. 格林先生，請隨便吃。
Help yourself to the fish. 請吃魚。
Make yourself at home, and help yourself to anything you like. 請不要拘束，喜歡吃什麼就吃什麼。
(2) 表示客氣答應請求，意為：請自便，自已拿吧! 如：
A：Do you think I could use your dictionary? 我可以用你的詞典嗎?
B：Yes, help yourself. 可以，自已拿吧。
A：Can I have a drink? 我可以喝杯酒嗎?
B：Help yourself. 請自己倒。
3. I can’t help it.
(1) 表示幫不上忙，意為：我也沒辦法;這不是我的錯。如：
He doesn’t love you any more and I can’t help it. 他不再愛你了，我也沒有辦法。
I can’t help it if the train is late. 要是火車晚點我也沒辦法。
有時可用於被動語態(見 It can’t be helped. )。
(2) 表示控制不住某種情感或思想等，意為：我控制不住; 我忍不住;我沒法不……。如：
A：Why are you crying? 你為什麼哭?
B：I can’t help it. 我忍不住。
有時可將其中的代詞 it 換成 myself：
I can’t help myself, but I mean no harm. 我控制不了自己，但我並沒有惡意。
I wasn’t supposed to go to the movies, but I could not help myself. 我不該去看電影的，但我就是管不住自己。
4. It can’t be helped.
表示沒有辦法或幫不上忙，意為：無可挽回; 這是無法避免的;實在沒辦法;只好這樣。如：
You』ve broken it now; it can’t be helped. 你把它打破了，已無法挽回。
We haven’t got enough money, and it can’t be helped. 我們沒有足夠的錢，這實在沒辦法。
此用法也可換成：There’s no help for it. 如：
Since so, there’s no need for it but to delay our journey. 既然如此，也沒有辦法，我們只好推遲旅行。
The thing is done and there is no help for it now. 木已成舟，現已無法挽回。
5. So help me.
用於發誓，意為：上天作證;我敢發誓;千真萬確。如：
I really swam across the river, so help me. 我的確遊過了河，我對天發誓。
I didn’t mean to do it. So help me, it was an accident. 我不是有意要那樣做，上天作證，那的確是一次事故。
有時其它可接其它詞或成分(www.yywords.com)：
I』ll pay you back, so help me (I will). 這錢我一定還給你，我敢發誓。
It’s the truth. So help me it is. 那是真的，上天作證，的確如此。
If you say that once more, so help me I』ll hit you. 要是你再說一遍這樣的話，我可真的要狠狠湊你一頓了。
另外有時 so help me 後也可接 God 一詞(以加強語氣)：
I didn’t know the man I insulted was your father. So help me God I didn’t. 我不知道你侮辱的那個是你父親，上天作證，我做夢也沒有想到啊。
