1. expect
(1)expect跟anticipate意思不一樣。引《簡潔的原理》(英文版)如下:
Strictly, to anticipate means 「to foresee,」 「to deal with in advance,」 or 「to expect and prepare for something.」 To expect means merely to look toward the coming event; it does not include the notion of preparation. 「To expect an attack by the enemy」 is merely to look ahead to it; 「to anticipate an attack by the enemy」 is not only to look ahead to it but also to dispose one’s forces to meet it.
我們一般說的「期待」「預料」,大概都是指expect。舉個有些相像的中文例子:望穿秋水。
聽蕉聲,一陣一陣細雨下。何處與人閒嗑牙?望穿秋水,不見還家,潸潸淚似麻。又是想他,又是恨他,手拿著紅繡鞋兒佔鬼卦。(蒲松齡《聊齋志異·鳳陽士人》)
(2)標題裡的expected可以刪去:New infrastructure projects to boost economy
2. the impact of
impact這兒是名詞,但用作動詞的情況越來越多,英文媒體上更是常見。建議寫作中impact只作名詞用。如果想用動詞,就用affect或influence代替。
3. amid
英語中有時會遇到這幾個詞:amid、among、amidst、amongst。用amid,不用amidst;用among,不用amongst。
amid後面多數情況是不可數名詞,比如:amid talk of war。有時也可以是抽象名詞的複數形式,比如:resigned amid rumors of misconduct。
among後面永遠都是複數名詞,比如:among the children。
