Both are in high demand, and in future chinese market will overgrow japaenese.
But, if you ask about job prospects anyday Japanese is best!!
The reason is, japanese are loath to learn and use english.
But Chinese are learning english so fast that they themselves will fulfill the demand of English to chinese bridge.
But in japanese the bridge is getting more bigger.
So if you study japanese, the prospects of applying it on a career is huge, but neverthless currently both chinese and japanese are hottest languages to learn!!

如果是問哪門語言的就業前景更好，那肯定是日語的啦！
為什麼？因為日本人不願意學習英語啊（所以我們只好學日語）。
而中國人學英語學得很快，可以用英語溝通，中文翻譯的需求當然就不大了。
日語翻譯的需求會越來越大。
所以，學日語並將其當做職業的就業前景很大。
目前，中文和日語都是熱門語言。

Japanese is growing in term of interest and need in india. And Mandarin or 「chinese」 is globally demanded and same for india, there are many chinese companies entering into every expanding indian market so they surely need someone with better understanding of mandarin, also in global market mandarin is influential, so I would suggest you to learn Mandarin if you are looking in terms of career or growth, but it all depends on personal choice and favour. Personally I love japanese language and am is currently self tauting . I have also learned basic mandarin though its not easy to learn mandarin and requires lot of practice and time (i would say least 2 yr while living with mandarin speakers or chinese people) . And learning to read and write mandarin is another whole new game! Hope this helps.

我個人喜歡日語，目前在自學日語。
我也學了一些中文。中文學起來太難了，需要很大的付出，至少要和中國人相處2年才會說吧。
