1. sale: a time when a shop sells things more cheaply than usual 打折，特價
例：
There’s going to be a sale at Macy’s next week.（下周Macy’s百貨有特價。）
Julie bought her jacket at a sale for twenty dollars.（打折時，朱莉花$20買了那件夾克。）

The bookstore across the street is having a sale.（對面街的書店正在搞特價。）
2. on sale/in the sales: something that is on sale is being sold at a specially low price in a shop 某樣商品正在打折
注意：」on sale」：美式英語的說法；」in the sales」：英式英語的說法。
例：
「How much was your jacket?」 「I got it on sale in Montgomery Wards. It only cost $45.」
（-你這夾克多少錢買的？-我在MW商場打折時買的，才$45。）
His suit was bought in the sales for £100.（他這外套打折時買的，£100。）

I need a new pair of shoes but I want to wait until they go on sale.（我該買雙新鞋了，但想等到打折再買。）
3. reduced: goods that are reduced are being sold at a lower price than usual 減價
例：
Everything is reduced because the store’s closing down next month.（店下個月就要關門了，所有東西都大減價。）

The CDs were reduced from $10 to $5.（CD原價$10，現價$5。）
4. £1/$20/10% etc. off: if there is £1, $20, 10% etc. off something, its usual price has been reduced by that amount 減了多少的價
注意：off前面的數字或百分比表示減去的那部分金額，並非折後的價格，比如10% off即是說一件商品降10%的價，用中國的計數方法就是「打九折」，而不是「打一折」。
例：
20% off all computers in Dixon’s summer sale（Dixon夏季特價 所有電腦8折出售。）
We got $10 off the chair because it had a small mark on it.（椅子上有點瑕疵，所以便宜$10賣給我們。）
5. discount: a reduction in the price you pay for something, which is given for a special reason 因某種原因而給出的折扣
例：
get a discount =pay less 獲得折扣
You』ll get a discount if you pay in cash.（現金支付可以打折。）
discount on 可以折扣價購買某類商品
Workers at the store get a discount on books.（書店員工買書可打折。）
30%/£50 etc. discount （這裡的數字問題同4）
There’s a 30% discount on all electrical goods.（所有電子產品七折出售。）
at a discount =at a reduced price 以折扣價出售
Air UK is currently offering tickets to students at a special discount.（英國航空現在有學生特價票。）
6. special offer: a very low price that a shop sells something for, in order to persuade more people to buy things there特價促銷
例：
They』ve got a special offer for seniors — five nights for the price of three.（老年人住酒店有特價，住5晚只需3晚的價格。）
Take advantage of our special offer between now and Oct 30th this year.（特價至今年10月30日，機不可失！）
7. cut-price: cut-price goods or services are sold at prices that are much lower than the usual price, either because they have been specially reduced or because they are being sold by someone who always sells things cheaply低價的
例：
Fruit is fairly inexpensive in Japan because they buy cut-price oranges and apples from South Africa.（日本水果很便宜，因為他們從南非低價進口橙子和蘋果。）
8. be going cheap: if something is going cheap , it is being sold more cheaply than usual （口語）打折，降價
例：
If they have any bicycle lamps going cheap, can you get me one? （如果你有便宜的自行車燈，給我一個好嗎？）
Have a look in the travel agent’s and see if there are any flights to Toronto going cheap. （去旅行社看看飛多倫多的航班有沒有打折。）
9. special: a product that is sold at a low price for a short time — used especially about food, drink, or meals特價食物、特價飲料、特價餐等
例：
Today’s lunch special is smoked salmon with rice.今天的特價午餐是燻三文魚配米飯。
