原來 Lemon Tree 背後的故事那麼傷感?

今天跟你們聊的歌應該絕大部分人都聽過，記不住詞的聽到這旋律應該就想起來了。

Lemon Tree was written by German band Fool's Garden in 1994. It was released in more than 40 countries around the world, and has won a dozen different awards. 

《Lemon Tree》是德國的愚人花園樂隊在1994年12月4日首唱的鄉村歌曲。這首聽起來很隨意的歌卻慢慢在全球火了起來。

很多人聽旋律以為這是一首很歡快、慵懶的歌，可其實背後的故事可能並不歡樂。

The singer (Peter Freudenthaler) had a French girlfriend who died in a car accident, in which she crashed against a lemon tree. 

So there's a urban legend that Peter wrote the song in memory of his girlfriend. 

一個廣為流傳的說法是唱這首歌的Peter Freudenthaler以前有一個法國女朋友，不幸遭遇車禍去世了，而正是撞上了一顆檸檬樹。所以Peter寫了這首歌緬懷他的女朋友。

如果這個故事是真實的話，這首歌就不難理解了。

Peter唱的是一直沒等到她：

I'm sitting here in a boring room

我呆坐在這毫無生氣的房間裡

It's just another rainy Sunday afternoon

又是一個陰雨綿綿的周日午後

I'm wasting my time I got nothing to do

我空耗著時間無事可做

I'm hanging around I'm waiting for you

我坐立難安四處徘徊，等待著你的到來

But nothing ever happens and I wonder

但你始終沒有出現，我感到詫異鬱悶

他深陷痛苦：

I'm sitting here I miss the power

我呆坐在這 感覺渾身乏力

I'd like to go out taking a shower

我想出去淋淋雨

But there's a heavy cloud inside my head

但有一片烏雲縈繞在我腦海中揮之不去

I feel so tired put myself into bed

我心力交瘁地躺在床上

Well, nothing ever happens and I wonder

你終究未來，只有我一人，我很鬱悶

甚至幻想以後是不是能再找到another toy，另一個愛人：

Isolation is not good for me

自我封閉毫無益處

Isolation, I don't want to sit on a lemon tree

我不想如此孤獨地坐在檸檬樹前

I'm stepping around in the desert of joy

我漫步在快樂的沙洲上

Baby anyhow I'll get another toy

親愛的無論如何我都可能另尋到他愛

And everything will happen and you'll wonder

那時我所期待的都將發生，鬱悶的或許會是你

他還說，

I wonder how I wonder why

我不知所措 我不明所以

Yesterday you told me about the blue blue sky

分明昨天你還與我談論美麗的天氣

And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon tree

但我眼前所見只有一株金黃的檸檬樹

Blue sky是很光明向上的，可能意思是他們昨天還在談著美好未來。

而現在卻只剩下一棵lemon tree. 

當時看到這個說法重新去聽這首歌的時候都感覺想哭，希望這故事不是真實的。

如果這故事不是真的，這首歌的歌詞其實也帶著苦澀味道。

Lemon tree usually stands for bitterness and sadness as lemon is sour and bitter, and a lemon tree has lots of lemons. 

Lemon is also used to describe sad things in the common expression.

For example, "when life gives you lemons...make lemonade," which means, when something bad happens to you, try to make something good out of it.

Lemon檸檬通常是用來形容傷心的事，就像那句很經典的勵志名言——

When life gives you lemons...make lemonade. 

當生活給了你檸檬，就榨成檸檬汁吧。

意思就是把不好的境況變成好的。

So maybe what the singer sings about is that their love relationship ended because his girlfriend left him. They broke up. 

Now he's all depressed but has decided that he must cheer up and find another love. 

That’s why he says, 

Baby anyhow I'll get another toy

And everything will happen and you wonder

所以也有可能是女友離開了他。儘管昨天他們還暢想blue blue sky 美好未來，現在也只剩下苦澀的一棵lemon tree。自己唱著歡快的旋律，希望能找到another toy代替她。

當然了，最好的情況就是只是Peter在等女友的時候瞎想的這所有，歌詞都是幻想的，不是真實的。
