4月21日是伊莉莎白二世實際出生的日子；而英女王的官方壽辰（Queen’s Official Birthday）卻是6月的一個周六，也是許多大英國協國家的公眾假期。為啥？因為6月英國的天氣好呀！
The Queen's actual birthday is April 21, but traditionally British monarchs have an official birthday in the summer months when there is a better chance of good weather for birthday events.

英國皇家閱兵儀式是專為英國君主官方慶生舉行的分列式閱兵儀式，每年六月都會吸引無數的倫敦市民和遊客駐足圍觀，還有數百萬的觀眾通過電視關注這一盛況。
The official birthday of the Sovereign is marked each year by a military parade and march-past, known as Trooping the Color. This takes place each June on Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall, in front of crowds of onlookers and is enjoyed by millions world-wide.
皇家閱兵儀式起源於英國軍旗敬禮分列式和女王的衛兵換崗儀式，時間可以追溯到18世紀初，甚至更早。其中的一大特點就是士兵會根據隊伍的標誌性顏色或旗幟進行集結，所以才叫做「Trooping the Color」。1748年，這種列隊形式正式在英國君主的慶生閱兵儀式中被採納。
The ceremony derived from the two old military ceremonies, Trooping the Color and Mounting the Queen’s Guard. The origin of the ceremony goes back to the early eighteenth century and possibly even earlier.
A feature of guard mounting was for the colors of the battalion to be carried (or 「trooped」) slowly down the ranks so that they could be seen and recognized by the soldiers. In 1748, it was ordered that this parade would also mark the official birthday of the Soverign.

The Queen’s Color of a battalion of Foot Guards is 「trooped」 (carried along the ranks) each year before the Sovereign. Only one color can be trooped at a time, and five Household Regiments-Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards take their turn each year.

As part of the ceremony, there was also an RAF flypast watched by the Royal Family from the palace balcony. The Red Arrows were a highlight of the flypast as they flew over the palace emitting red, blue and white smoke.

年年慶生年年暈，照樣還能「搶頭條」。
報導稱，除了天氣熱以外，士兵屢屢暈倒還有一個重要原因就是他們戴的那頂厚實的「熊皮」。
Dressed in his full uniform, including a bearskin, one soldier fell forward out of his formation as temperatures soared to 25 Celsius in nearby St James's Park.

A bearskin is a tall fur cap, usually worn as part of a ceremonial military uniform. Traditionally, the bearskin was the headgear of grenadiers and it is still worn by grenadier and guards regiments in various armies.

當然，前面提及的種種和恐襲相比都只能算是小事兒——英國近來接連發生多起恐怖襲擊，日前倫敦「格蘭菲爾塔」大火又導致傷亡慘重，英國民眾連續多天在首相官邸附近街道抗議……這一切都讓女王的慶生活動少了很多歡樂氣氛。
在開始操演前，女王率領民眾先進行一分鐘默哀，並在生日獻詞中呼籲國民在「在哀傷中團結」。
In a message to mark her official birthday, Queen Elizabeth II says: "Today is traditionally a day of celebration. This year, however, it is difficult to escape a very sombre national mood. In recent months, the country has witnessed a succession of terrible tragedies."
女王表示，「面對災難考驗時，英國展現了堅定態度。我們在悲傷中團結起來，同樣堅決並且無私無懼，支持所有受到嚴重傷害和損失影響的人們重建生活。」
Her message concluded: "Put to the test, the United Kingdom has been resolute in the face of adversity. United in our sadness, we are equally determined, without fear or favour, to support all those rebuilding lives so horribly affected by injury and loss."
路透社事後評論說，女王如此「直接」的措辭很罕見，暗示了英國如今的不安局面。
令人遺憾的是，女王剛發表完生日講話，倫敦又發生血腥一幕。
當地時間19日凌晨，倫敦北部芬斯伯裡公園清真寺附近發生貨車衝撞行人事件。目前已造成1人死亡、10人受傷。一名48歲男子在事件中被捕。
At least one person was killed and 10 others were injured when a van was driven into worshippers early morning on Monday near a north London mosque.
A van driver who was arrested by police has been taken to hospital and is subject to a mental health assessment.
英國首相特雷莎•梅表示，警方正在將這一事件作為「可能的恐怖襲擊」處理。
British Prime Minister Theresa May said that she would chair an emergency meeting later in the day after police called the incident in north London "a potential terrorist attack."
