The witch had a cat
女巫有一隻貓
and a hat that was black,
有一頂黑色的尖帽，
And long ginger hair
金黃色的長辮子，
in a braid down her back.
垂在她的後腦勺。
How the cat purred
貓咪開心得喵喵叫
and how the witch grinned!
女巫抿著嘴巴眯眯笑！
As they sat on their broomstick
他們騎著魔掃帚
and flew through the wind.
一路迎風飛著跑
But how the witch wailed
急得女巫哇哇喊
and how the cat spat!
貓也跟著嗚嗚叫！
When the wind blew so wildly,
突然一陣狂風吹來，
it blew off the hat.
把女巫的帽子給吹掉。
"Down!" cried the witch,
「下去！」女巫一聲大叫，
and they flew to the ground.
魔掃帚降落到地面。
They searched for the hat,
他們找啊找啊找，
but no hat could be found.
可連帽子的影兒也沒看到。
Then out of the bushes
忽然矮樹叢裡
on thundering paws.
什麼東西噼噼啪啪往外跑。
There bounded a dog
跑出來一隻小狗
with the hat in his jaws.
嘴裡叼著女巫那頂尖帽。
He dropped it politely,
小狗把帽子輕輕放，
then eagerly said
接著急急開了腔
(As the witch pulled the hat
（女巫急忙把帽子
firmly down on her head),
緊緊戴到了頭上）：
"I am a dog,
「我是一隻小狗，
as keen as can be.
聰明伶俐人人誇。
Is there room on the broom
掃帚上可否坐得下，
for a dog like me?"
像我這樣一隻狗？」
"Yes!" cried the witch,
「坐得下！」女巫說道，
and the dog clambered on.
小狗馬上爬到掃帚上。
The witch tapped the broomstick and
女巫拍拍掃帚，
whoosh! they were gone.
嗚！他們就飛走。
Over the fields
飛過森林，
and the forests they flew.
飛過稻田。
The dog wagged his tail
小狗開心得搖尾巴
and the stormy wind blew.
大風呼呼迎面吹。
The witch laughed out loud
女巫哈哈大聲笑，
and held on to her hat.
把帽子緊緊抓牢。
But away blew the bow
沒料到，辮子上的蝴蝶結
from her brain--just like that!
卻一下子給吹掉。
"Down!" cried the witch,
「下去！」女巫一聲大叫，
and they flew to the ground.
魔掃帚降落到地面。
They searched for the bow,
他們找啊找啊找，
but no bow could be found.
可連帽子的影兒也沒看到。
Then out from a tree
忽然從大樹上
with an ear-splitting shriek.
傳來一聲清脆的鳥叫。
There flapped a green bird
一隻翠鳥飛下來
with the bow in her beak.
蝴蝶結就叼在她嘴角。
She dropped it politely,
她把蝴蝶結輕放下，
and bent her head low,
深深鞠個躬：
Then said
說道
(as the witch tied her braid in the bow),
（這時女巫把蝴蝶結系在辮子上）：
"I am a bird,
「我是一隻小翠鳥，
as green as can be.
翠綠羽毛人人誇。
Is there room on the broom
掃帚上可否坐得下，
for a bird like me?"
像我這樣一隻小鳥？」
"Yes!" cried the witch,
「坐得下！」女巫說道，
so the bird fluttered on.
小翠鳥馬上飛到掃帚上。
The witch tapped the broomstick and
女巫又拍拍掃帚
whoosh! they were gone.
嗚！他們飛走了。
Over the reeds
飛過蘆葦，
and the rivers they flew.
飛過小河。
The bird shrieked with glee
小鳥樂得吱吱喳喳叫，
and the stormy wind blew.
大風呼呼迎面吹。
They shot through the sky
他們飛過天空，
to the back of beyond.
飛到很遠很遠的地方。
The witch clutched her bow--
女巫把蝴蝶結抓得牢，
but let go of her wand.
可這回卻掉落了魔棒。
"Down!"cried the witch,
「下去！」女巫一聲大叫，
and they flew to the ground.
魔掃帚降落到地面。
They searched for the wand,
他們找啊找啊找，
but no wand could be found.
可連魔棒的影兒也沒看到。
Then all of a sudden
忽然
from out of a pond
從池塘裡，
Leaped a dripping wet frog
跳出一隻溼答答的小青蛙
with a dripping wet wand.
拿著那根魔棒，魔棒也溼答答。
He dropped it politely,
他輕輕放下魔棒，
then said with a croak
禮貌地開始呱呱呱
(As the witch dried the wand
（女巫急忙擦乾魔棒
on a fold of her cloak),
用她的外套）：
"I am a frog,
「我是一隻小青蛙，
as clean as can be.
講究衛生人人誇。
Is there room on the broom
掃帚上可否坐得下
for a frog like me?"
像我這樣一隻青蛙？」
"Yes!" said the witch,
「坐得下！」女巫說道，
so the frog bounded on.
小青蛙馬上跳到掃帚上。
The witch tapped the broomstick and
女巫又拍拍掃帚
whoosh! they were gone.
嗚！他們飛走了。
Over the moors
他們飛過沼澤，
and the mountains they flew.
他們飛過群山。
The frog jumped for joy and...
青蛙樂得蹦蹦跳，可突然...
THE BROOM SNAPPED IN TWO！
咔嚓一聲， 掃帚一下子斷成了兩半！
Down fell the cat and the dog
貓啊，狗啊，
and the frog.
還有青蛙，全都往下掉
Down they went tumbling
他們一個一個倒載蔥，
into a bog.
掉進了一個爛泥溏裡頭。
The witch’s half-broomstick
可女巫和那另外半根魔掃帚，
flew into a cloud,
卻飛入了雲中。
And the witch heard a roar
雲中忽然傳來一聲咆哮，
that was scary and loud…
嚇得女巫的心撲通撲通跳...
「I am a dragon,
「我是一條大惡龍，
as mean as can be,
惡得不能再惡！
And witch with French fries
我要拿女巫加上土豆條
tastes delicious to me!」
當作點心吃了！」
「No!」 cried the witch,
「不行！」女巫大聲喊道，
flying higher and higher.
飛得更高更高。
The dragon flew after her,
大惡龍緊緊跟在她後面，
breathing out fire.
噴出火舌去把她燒。
「Help!」 cried the witch,
「救命啊！救命！」女巫大聲叫，
flying down to the ground.
邊叫邊飛回到地面。
She looked all around
她東望望，西瞧瞧
but no help could be found.
看來沒人來幫忙。
The dragon drew near
大惡龍越逼越近
with a glint in his eyes。
眼裡閃著邪惡的光芒。
And said, 「Just this once
獰笑著：「也許這一回
I』ll have witch without fries.」
就光吃女巫，不加土豆條！」
But just as he planned
大惡龍正打算
to begin on his feast,
開始吃他這頓大菜，
From out of a ditch
忽然從泥潭裡冒出來
rose a horrible beast.
一隻可怕的怪獸。
It was tall, dark, and sticky,
這隻怪獸黏糊糊，又黑又高，
and feathered and furred.
身上又是皮毛又是羽毛。
It had four frightful heads,
四個嚇人的腦袋，
it had wings like a bird.
翅膀就像一隻鳥。
And its terrible voice,
它發出恐怖的聲音
when it started to speak,
開始張嘴來說話，
Was a yowl and a growl
又是汪汪，又是喵喵，
and a croak and a shriek.
又是呱呱，還會嘰嘰喳喳。
It dripped and it squelched
身上的泥漿還往下掉，吧唧吧唧
and it strode from the ditch.
大搖大擺地從泥塘裡走過來。
And it said to the dragon,
它對大惡龍怒叫：
「Buzz off!-THAT』S MY WITCH!」
「快滾開！-那是我的女巫！」
The dragon drew back
大惡龍嚇壞了
and he started to shake.
渾身一直打哆嗦。
「I’m sorry!」 he spluttered.
「對不起！」 他結結巴巴地說，
「I made a mistake.
」都是我的錯！
It’s nice to have met you,
幸會，幸會，
but now I must fly.」
我這就走，這就走。」
And he spread out his wings
他趕緊張開了翅膀，
and was off through the sky.
飛到空中就逃走。
Then down flew the bird
這時，從怪物的最上面飛下來一隻小鳥，
and down jumped the frog.
接著跳下來一隻青蛙，
Down climbed the cat,
再接著爬下來的是那隻貓，
and, 「Phew!」 said the dog.
「旺旺！」小花狗一直叫。
And, 「Thank you, oh, thank you!」
「哦，謝謝你們！謝謝你們啊！」
the grateful witch cried,
女巫滿心感激，
「Without you I』d be
「要是沒有你們，
in that dragon’s inside.」
我這會兒已經到了惡龍的肚子裡。」
Then she filled up her cauldron
接著女巫生好火，支起了鍋。
and said with a grin,
她神秘地笑了笑說：
「Find something, everyone,
「你們各去找樣東西來，
throw something in!」
放進這大鍋！」
So the frog found a lily,
青蛙找來一朵百合，
the cat found a cone,
貓咪找來一個松果，
The bird found a twig,
小鳥銜來一根樹枝，
and the dog found a bone.
小狗叼來一根骨頭。
They threw them all in
他們把這些東西統統放進鍋，
and the witch stirred them well,
女巫把它們攪啊攪。
And while she was stirring,
她一面攪，
she muttered a spell.
一面念咒語：
「Iggety, ziggety, zaggety, ZOOM!」
「咪哩嗎哩轟！」
Then out rose…
變了出來...
A TRULY MAGNIFICENT BROOM!
一把非同尋常的魔掃帚！
With seats or the witch
上面有三個座位，分別給女巫、
and the cat and the dog,
小貓和小狗，
a nest for the bird
給小鳥一個舒適的巢
and a pool for the frog.
給青蛙一個小池塘。
"Yes!" cried the witch,
「上去吧！」女巫叫道，
and they all clambered on.
於是大家爬掃帚上坐好。
The witch tapped the broomstick
女巫拍拍掃帚，
and whoosh! they were gone.
嗚！他們飛走了。
