今天來講講英語很常見的一個單詞give的用法，它可以組合的詞組非常多，比如give up表示放棄，give in表示投降，give a hand表示幫助，give over表示停止。
除了這些以外，還有一些和give有關的短語或句子，我們來學一下吧！
*「給你」是give you還是here you are？到底有什麼區別？
口語中我們經常需要表達「給某人什麼」，「給」最直白的翻譯就是「give」，不過在使用的時候要注意，「give you」不能單獨成為句子使用，必須要加上某個具體的東西，比如：
① Adam，I can give you some paper if you want.
亞當，如果你想要的話，我可以給你一些紙。
而如果你想要表達「給你，你拿去」之類的意思，可以用「here you are」或者「here you go」，都是可以單獨作為句子使用的，比如：
① - Can I have your passport，please？
- Yeah，sure，here you are.
- 可以出示一下您的護照嗎？
- 好的，給你。
接下來我們來看看幾個和give有關的詞組吧！
1）Give up the ghost
這個詞組看著非常有意思，give up是放棄，ghost是鬼魂，give up the ghost是「放棄了個鬼」嗎？怎麼放棄？啥意思？哈哈！
在這裡大家首先要知道ghost，雖然現在多指幽靈或鬼魂，但是在古英語裡，其實它指代精神或靈魂（soul or spirit），認為是生命的源頭。想一下，生命的源頭都被放棄了，意思就是死掉了，或者引申為報廢（比如一些機械設備等）。
英語例句：
① I am so sorry to tell that the old tree in the garden gave up the ghost yesterday.
很遺憾告訴你，花園裡的那棵老樹昨天死掉了。
② My poor old car finally gave up the ghost.
我那可憐的老爺車最終還是報廢了。
2）Give someone beans
這個詞組也有意思，字面上看是「給某人一些豆子」，但是這個「豆子」不好吃，就跟「吃馬肉」一樣。因此，give someone beans指的是斥責某人的意思。
英語例句：
① I will give Adam beans for not finishing the project on time again.
我要罵一罵亞當，他又沒有準時完成項目。
3）What gives！
看似是「給什麼」，其實意思很簡單很實用，和what’s up？或者What happened？相同，表示「怎麼回事」？「發生了什麼」？
英語例句：
① What gives？Who made such a mess in the house？
怎麼回亊？是誰把房子弄得一團糟？
4）Don’t give me that！
這一句也是非常實用哦，字面上看是「不要給我那個」，也就是你給我「少來這套」的意思。
英語例句：
① Don't give me that！Just tell me how much you have spent on that stupid game！
少來這套！告訴我你在那個愚蠢的遊戲上花了多少錢！
