五一放假期間，小編去看了劉若英首次導演作品《後來的我們》
電影主要講述了兩個陌生人的愛情故事，他們回家途中偶然在火車上碰面，然後相知相愛到最後分開的故事，其中涉及到夢想、北漂，觸及了很多年輕人內心最柔軟的部分，所以自上映以來，票房一直很可觀。
在看字幕的時候，小編注意到:
The English title of this film is Us and Them.
《後來的我們》被翻譯成了「Us and Them」。
What are we intended to make of this translation?
為什麼這麼翻譯呢？
Who do 『us』 and 『them』 refer to?
「我們和他們」？「我們」是誰？「他們」又是誰？
Social convention generally dictates that an individual refer to others first. Consequently, "us" commonly appears at the end a sentence. Yet the title defies polite conventions in order to reflect the narrative arc of the film. The film is, in essence, a transition from a united 『us』 to a divided 『them.』
按照慣例，出於禮貌的原則，通常會先稱呼他人，再稱呼自己，因此「us」一般會出現在句末。但為了反映電影的敘事順序，Us and Them這個英文標題一定程度上違背了禮貌的原則。電影本身，呈現的是曾經相知相愛的「us」逐漸變成漸行漸遠的陌生人「them」。
Interestingly, this also reflects a common English turn of phrase—It’s us against them. In calling to mind this saying, the title suggests a distant, adversarial relationship for two formerly close people.
有趣的是，這也反映了一個常見的英語表達——「us」和「them」的對立關係，這個標題也暗示了兩個曾經親密的人逐漸疏遠，進而對立的關係。
