Richard Adams 簡介

2016年聖誕前夜，英國文壇一顆巨星隕落， 96歲高齡的Richard Adams於牛津安然逝去。

Richard Adams1920年生於雷丁附近的Newbury。1938年考入牛津大學 Worcester College歷史系，1940年二戰爆發後入伍。直到二戰結束後， Richard Adams才得以重返牛津， 於1948年獲得牛津本科學位。

《Watership Down》發表於1972年，最初起源於Richard Adams給女兒們在長途旅行中自編的兔子冒險故事。但故事針砭時弊，充分體現了二戰後，作者對英國社會的分析和期待。

Watership Down故事梗概

從《兔子共和國》的翻譯，大家不難看出《Watership Down》不單單是一部關於兔子探險的童話故事, 它同時也是一部關於社會階層的成人故事。

身體贏弱的兔子小弟Fiver天生具有預感未來的功能。 一天，Fiver預感到一場來自人類的毀滅性災難已迫在眉睫， Fiver聯合強壯勇敢的哥哥Hazel打算說服首領帶領兔群搬遷。然而，他們的提議不但遭到了拒絕，還被指控成製造騷亂。於是Hazel和Fiver只好帶領其他幾隻相信他們的兔子匆匆逃離領地，踏上了建立新的兔子共和國的徵程。

《兔子共和國》在英國當代文學史上的地位可以跟吉普林的《叢林故事》和喬治•奧威爾的《動物農場》相提並論。《叢林故事》和《動物農場》均在Moon Tuition閱讀推薦介紹過。
