Psyche was such a beautiful girl that she was adored as a Goddess by people, which had a great impact on Venus, the Goddess of love and beauty. Venus got angry and envious so she informed his son Cupid that Psyche was bound to be punished by making her fall in love with the ugliest man in the kingdom.

普緒刻因貌若天仙而被眾人當神一般崇拜，因此遭到愛與美之神維納斯的嫉妒。維納斯派其子丘比特前去懲罰她---讓她愛上全國最醜陋的男子。

小愛神丘比特喜歡隨意的亂射愛情之箭，而此箭之魔力無人能擋，中箭者紛紛墜入愛河，連他本人也不例外。

Cupid was required to undertake this task. But instantly he saw Psyche, he fell in love with her, for he had his finger injured by his arrow by accident in the meanwhile. But he could not object to his mother, so he took Psyche to a secret palace with wonderful decoration, where she could enjoy attractive scenery and tasty food, and obtain all she needed, which struck great excitement into her heart. Only at night would Cupid come to date her at the palace and Psyche was forbidden to know who he was. Initially, Psyche felt satisfied with her fate and nothing was able to bother her happiness, but gradually she started to miss her family from time to time. Hearing this, Cupid asked his friend Zephyrus to bring her two sisters to the palace shortly.

丘比特領到任務後，有點好奇到底是什麼樣的女子能讓他母親這樣一位美神所嫉妒，他便想一看究竟，沒想到看了一眼，他就愛上了普緒刻，因為此時他手中的箭頭不小心劃破了自己的手。然母命難為，他便把普緒刻帶到了一處秘密宮殿，且只當夜幕來臨的時候才來和她約會，並要求普緒刻不能看自己的面貌。起初，在這神秘的宮殿，和神秘的情侶約會普緒刻還很快樂，慢慢地便開始懷念家人。聽到這些，丘比特讓好友西風之神把普緒刻的兩個姐姐帶到宮殿來陪伴她。

After knowing what happened to their junior sister, the two sisters thought it was unfair and felt envious of Psyche for her good fate. So they said it was not reasonable for a man to date only at night, unless he was a monster. They suggested their sister carry a knife to check whether her love was a monster when he was sleeping, and kill him instantly if it’s true. Psyche was a straightforward girl and did as she was told that night. But to her great amazement, she found her love, Cupid was really a handsome man. She trembled with excitement and wakened Cupid. He got angry and said when trust was gone, their love would come to an end. Cupid left the palace, leaving her cast down.

得知妹妹得到如此好運，並有得意伴侶使得兩位姐姐醋意大發，便對單純的普緒刻說：「你的情郎肯定是個妖怪，不然他怎麼不在白天來讓你看看他呢？你最好帶上匕首，打著燈晚上趁他入睡的時候看個究竟，如果真是妖怪就一刀殺死他。」普緒刻傻傻分不清楚，晚上她就照著姐姐的吩咐做了，誰知燈下他看到的是一個青春英俊的男子，她十分激動，手一抖，燈油滴在丘比特身上驚醒了他。看到如此情景，丘比特生氣地說沒有了信任，他們的愛情就不能再繼續了，說罷便一去不復返。（估計是因為她，自己和母親鬧翻了，現在又被伴侶懷疑，當然憤怒了）

Psyche felt desperate to get her love back, but it was in vain. One day she approached the temple of Venus to beg for her forgiveness, and she was required to undertake three tasks. All of them are extremely difficult to accomplish, but she manged to come to the third challenge---to go the hell to fetch Venus a secret box from Persephone, the Queen of Hell. Despite the difficulty and fear to get to Hell, she succeeded in getting the box and was informed that she was not allowed to open the box , which contained something that could make up for the loss of a day’s beauty. But after getting out of the hell, she failed to resist her curiosity to know what could make up for the loss of beauty on one day and opened the box on the way to the Temple of Love. The moment she opened it, the 「sleep」 inside the box was released, which made her asleep forever.

丘比特的離去，讓普緒刻萬分絕望，滿世界的尋找，終究無果。後得神人指點去維納斯神廟求得女神原諒。女神派給她三項任務：

1.把一屋子的小麥，豆子等混在一起的種子在一天內分開。

2.搜集黃金羊的羊毛

3.從冥後那裡帶回一盒美麗---「可以彌補一天美麗的東西」

在一群螞蟻的幫助下她完成了第一個任務；在蘆葦的指導下，他完成了第二個任務。然而，第三個任務要自己親自去冥府完成，不顧艱辛，終於到達冥府，拿到了那一盒「美麗」，冥後要求她不能私自打開這個裝有「可以彌補一天美麗的損失的東西」的盒子。然而，可能女子都愛美，都想知道什麼東西如此神奇，竟然可以彌補逝去的美麗，當她打開盒子的時候，裡面裝的是「睡眠」，普緒刻隨即昏睡了過去。（為什麼「彌補一天美麗的損失的東西」是睡眠呢？）

After leaving Psyche, Cupid couldn’t help missing her, and he decided to make up with her and he found her at last. He put the 「sleep」 into the box, and brought her back to life.

再說丘比特，離開普緒刻後不久，他便後悔了，也開始四處找她，終於找到了她，重新把那「睡眠」裝進盒子，歷盡波折，兩人（「愛」和「靈魂」）終於再次相逢。

Cupid took her to the Mount Olympus and requested Zeus, the God of Heaven, to turn her into a Goddess. Moved by her persistence, Zeus was in favor of his request. Psyche’s persistent pursuit of love finally paid off and she has been known as the Goddess of Spirit since then.

他們的愛情感動奧林匹斯上的神靈，得到了維納斯的原諒，宙斯也接納她入住奧林匹斯山，使之成為主管心靈的女神。

1.Cupid （丘比特）是羅馬神話中的小愛神，對應希臘神話裡的Eros(厄洛斯)，羅馬神話中的Venus（美神維納斯）對應希臘神話中的Aphrodite(阿芙洛狄特)。因丘比特與維納斯更為人所知，所以文章用其羅馬名敘述。

2. Psychology（心理學，對心靈的研究）一詞也由Psyche 一詞衍生出。

3. 故事情節有不同版本，維納斯交給普緒刻的任務也小有區別，有的是四個任務。
