一句「I want to talk to you.」真的很嚇人!

2016年甜杏在某R姓國際組織的日內瓦總部工作，負責媒體事務。同事們期待籌備一年多的業務論壇第二天就要上線啦！前一天下午我想跟老闆Catherine聊一個小的細節問題：某張照片是不是調小一點更好看？

於是我走到Catherine辦公室門口，她正靠在椅背上想事情，看到我之後微笑的示意我進去。

我說 I want to talk to you about the forum project. 聽完我的話 Catherine立馬從椅背上坐直，緊張震驚地看著我。

誒？我的表達有什麼問題嗎？Catherine 怎麼會有這個反應？

我想了下立刻換了句話說 Can I have a word with you about the forum project? 她喘了口氣哈哈一笑，跟我說 Go ahead!

你知道這是怎麼回事嗎？

want 在英語裡表達的是 have a desire or a wish for sth，而中國人常說的「想要」其實有兩種情況：

表達渴望得到，可以用 want

比如我「想要」一個華為P40

助動詞，表達考慮/計劃，不可以用 want

比如我「想要」出門倒垃圾

在論壇上線的前一天聽到我說 I want to talk to you about the forum project. 老闆內心的OS是：

Is everything alright? 

What happened? 

Is it bad news? 

所以難怪她有那樣的反應

而當我說 Can I have a word with you? 對方就知道我是想趁她有空跟她說個事兒。


想跟某人簡單溝通一件事情，別再說 I want to talk to you. 而要說：

Can I have a word with you?
