On Saturday 16th of April 2016, the long awaited Science Fair came to pass and it was a success .Engineers from all intakes wowed us with wonderful, analytical, mind-blowing projects. Though it was a rainy day, it did not stop us from carrying on with our exciting program, but it did not give the interested students a chance to examine all the projects at display. So we have given one last chance to choose your Best Project on display at the Science Fair and below are the details of eact project brought on that day.
Among the participants were 7 projects by OEC students and 9 projects by Chinese students giving us a total of about 16 projects. Some projects were done by individuals whilst others were a result of combined team work.
Most participants worked hand in hand with teachers from various schools which is amazing as it showed teacher-student academic relationship outside class so this not only encouraged participants think outside the box and work a bit out of their comfort zone but it also helped them strengthen their bonds with their professors.
Project 1: Smartphone Projector
Components:
Shoe Box, Magnifying Glassand a pair of bathroom slippers.
The magnifying class serves as the projector lens
The pair of slippers is used for thephone stand.
Shoe box is the projector case.
How to Use:
Set your phone’s brightness to the highest.
Mount the phone upside down on thephone stand using a masking tape. (this is because the magnifying glass produces inverted images)
Adjust the focus by shifting thephone stand back and forth.
Once you get your perfect image,close the projector and enjoy your video.
Applications:
Can be used to show lots of people videos from your phone, no need for 10 people to surround a little screen towatch a video while it can be projected.
Can study your ppts and notes from your phone at low health risk especially those with eye problems.
Project 2 :Smart Room Control System
You are in America, Africa, China, India, where ever in the world you can control your homelights, A/C ,any equipment using phone call & if you are in Home you can control by TV remote, by App Using Bluetooth or Voice Command.
If you are not at home your family member came to your home they are not to be out-side till you came, you can unlock your door by one call. All status display on LCD.
We can control more than 200 lights or equipment’s using this unit. We can add Wi-Fi or network Shield control this unit over internet.
Project 3: DVD Rom Mini Pen Printer
This Unit made by using two DVD-Rom drivers, Arduino Nano, Motor controller,Servo, Pen & plastic sheet.
In here we used pen as printer cartilage.
This software send data to printer picture X and Ycoordination. according to that upper and lower rails form dvd drives move. Z axis we used a small servo motor that moves the pen up anddown.
For the mounting base we used a small piece of plexiglass. If we use laser beam as pen we can use this aslaser cutter or add small drill we can make PCB using this unit.
Project 4 :Bespoke Chinese Tutorial App
Works on phone, tablet, computer - multiplatform - any web browser can open, offline content of about 20MB only.
Teaches Basic and Advanced Chinese with multimedia: text,audio, video, animation, images with speech synthesis. Includes Pinying, tones,Mandarin strokes.
Has interesting quiz section where questions are randomlygenerated from question bank including matching, aranging in sequence, shortfill in, hotspot, multiple choice.
Answers on objective questions are shuffled each time toavoid monotony and guessing.
Can be distributed as html5 or .exe file encrypted to avoid piracy,espipnage, pleagerism. Open endef and customised for local use.
Project 5 :Concrete Exoskeleton
A high rise commercial building characterized by openings randomly located and varyingin size throughout the whole external shell.
A column-freei nterior space for structures allowing flexibility in interior design.
The exoskeleton becomes the primary vertical and lateral structure for the building.
The concrete shell provides an efficient structural exoskeleton that frees the core from theburden of lateral forces and creates highly efficient, column-free open spaces in the building’s interior.
Exoskeleton creates chimney effect for maintaining temperature in building.
Project 6 :New-style Natatorium
The appearance of the Natatorium looks like pyramid and it reflects the absorption and development of foreign cultures.
The inspiration for the plinth is Chinese traditional caved window.
The material of the wall is glass and ETFE membrane and it will make the building has good light transmission and Breathability.
Above the swimming center, the playground provides an excellent place for relaxation.
Project 7 :Building model of a Library
There is no doubt that this is an architectural model.But could you believe it is a library? OK!Let me eliminate your doubts. There is a saying that Hardworking is the boat to the endless sea of learning.So we made this model and made it looks like a sail to motivate our students.
Project 8 :Coin separation
Function: Separate and count the different size of coins.
Application: Some public transportation system,commerce and bank.
From: Base on the theory of TRIZ.
Special: The movement of hook face can aviod currency hindering the separation of coins.
Addition: It also can work by mobile device.
Project 9 :Smart Phone Projector
We made the projector using a simple concave mirror,and a commom box, producing the projection cleverly by mosaicing. When we get put the phone which is playing video inside the box, through the hole in the front of the box,you can enjoy the same playback with in the theatre,let you enjoy the feeling of watching a large anywhere any time. Besides,the material of the projector make an exact choice around the visible simplicity,fit the current concept of environmental protection perfectly.
Project 10 :Quad-rotor UAV electrostatic plant protection helicopter
Farmer can control the Quad-rotor UAV in remote area which can avoid pesticide poisoning.
The downwash flow of UAV improving the kinetic energy of droplets which improves prevention efficiency.
THE quad-rotor UAV electrostatic plant protection helicopter can spray about one acre in one minute , which especially apply to ranchers.
Project 11 :Model of a gym
As you can see the shape of it is half-ellipsoid .The structure of which is steal structure and all the gym covered by glass. To the benefit of lighting glasses are considered firstly. There are solar panels on the top of the gym, the basic electricity used for lights are provided by it. This design is easy to build and low-cost.It also energy conservation and environment protection;
Project 13: Continuous Flow Swimming Pool
A small swimming pool with dimensions of about ( 3m length, 2m breadth and 1.5 depth) or more that has water flowing from one end to another at an adjustable speed and pressure depending on the pump and nozzle using a control remote.
The swimmer has to swim in the opposite direction as the water flow with effort depending on the water pressure thus working out the body and no need for a trainer.
The swimmer does not move, the water flows instead but the swimmer feels like he/she is moving. The pool has a provision for hot and cold water.
It can be located within the house and is very convenient, saves time, money , space and unnecessary hospital bills as it is hygienic. It can act as a jacuzi if the pump is turned off and water is not flowing at all.
For future developmetns, we could use a voice sensitive application to control water flow of a radiation bracelet that makes water flow as long as its in motion or a touch screen controller by the side of the pool. We could use solar energy instead of electricity and we could increase dimensions by two then make it usable by two people e.g. a couple.
Project 14: Plant alarm (plant alarm)
Today's development has been rapid, the management of pollution does not equate with the pollution currently produced. Air pollution is increasingly serious, causing many respiratory diseases, and air quality has become an issue we must pay attention to every day, just days before the arrival of a lot of emergency, plant is our most suitable agents.
The production and use of the method is simple. Understanding of the related plant necessary, equipped with the relevant specifications, can form a plant alarm.
Use clear direction. Associated with respiratory diseases, decorate houses just family, can be related to protection.
Low cost Related plant cost, basically every household are placed in the home.
Easy to manage, use cycle is long. Corresponding family plant protection on a regular basis, can greatly extend the life cycle.
Project 15: Wraith-Ⅳ
」Wraith-Ⅳ」 is a small, formula style, autocross vehicle conceived , designed , fabricated , driven and tested by undergraduate and graduate students in Jiangsu University.
」Wraith-Ⅳ」 can perform very high in acceleration, braking, handling, aesthetics, ergonomics, manufacturing and maintenance etc , within minimum manufacturing cost and with no compromise on driver safety.
We students drive the car on the track to compete with local and foreign teams and the car is expected to go aboard to fight for honor.
Anybody who have deep love for vehicles especially racing cars have opportunities to join our formula student racing team.
Project 16: Cellphone Controlled Car
Think about creating a car which would be controlled by yourvoice. By giving a command, the car would drive you to your destination.
The voice recognition algorithm we used could be applied to daily life; for example it would be most helpful to disabled people to perform their daily work. We created a speech controlled car using various electrical and mechanical domains.
We constructed it as the bluetooth of our cell phone can be connected to the car and hence we can control it by giving commands...
