This year, Giving a Beat Charity Concert 2017 will be held at Beijing’s newest premier music venue, Yue Space, conveniently located in the heart of Beijing at Beixinqiao. Proceeds from the charity concert will be donated again to Bethel China; an amazing foreign-run charity organization that helps fund medical and educational needs for visually impaired children in and around Beijing. Last year’s event raised just under 10,000 RMB and this year we are hoping to double those numbers.
Just like last year, Giving a Beat has teamed up with some great businesses popular with the expat community to raffle off some amazing prizes. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the night and 100% of all the raffle ticket money will be donated to Bethel China. There will be tons of awesome merchandise from the bands and Giving a Beat on sale as well and that money too will be donated to the charity organization. Vedett Beer has also teamed up with Giving a Beat to offer some great drink deals to those buying raffle tickets.
This is going to be the expat music event of the summer so don’t miss out! Pre-Sale tickets are on sale now for only 80 RMB and tickets at the door will be 100 RMB so make sure to buy your tickets now. It’s incredibly easy to purchase tickets by just scanning the QR code, purchasing tickets directly at the venue, or contacting Giving a Beat directly. After the live music finishes, attendees will be able to continue the party and dance the rest of the night away to the tunes of DJ JELLIS who will be spinning funky grooves all night long.

The Hunters
The Hunters are one of Beijing’s best expat bands and their talent on stage will blow you away. This explosive five-piece continues to receive the accolades of the music scene by combining original music in the style old school Funk, Soul, and Rock all mixed and served in an intoxicating and action packed delivery. The Hunters are a staple to the Beijing expat music scene performing at such venues as Modernista, DDC, YuGongYiShan, Yue Space, and many more. They have also traveled all over China performing at music festivals in DaTong, MouTai, Shanghai, and WuXi just to name a few. The Hunters were one of the featured bands at the Giving a Beat Charity Concert 2016. The Hunters were founded in 2013 (under the name Violette & the Hunters) and have gone through some lineup changes whilst still keeping their explosive sound. Led by Jake Gerl (guitar), and core members James Guo (keys), JP Fernandez (bass), Conor Watson (drums); The Hunters will leave a lasting impression on its listeners and keep them wanting more. They have recently released their debut EP, Blacklight; part one of two funky grooving EPs.
Tavey Lean & the Solid Gold Dream Machine
Once upon a VA Bar jam session back in 2012, four funky friends started making sweet music together. It wasn’t long before they realized that their grooves were too tight not to start a band. From there, Tavey Lean & the Solid Gold Dream Machine was born. Now boasting an impressive 8 members and an even more impressive repertoire of classic soul and R&B cover songs, 「Solid Gold」 brings to their audience the power of Tavey’s 「Al Greenesque」 vocals, a 3-piece horn section, and a rock-solid rhythm section. Due to the transient nature of their beloved Beijing, the band has seen a few different line ups over the years, but all came together to create the distinctive sound which makes Solid Gold a unique act in the Beijing nightlife today. With the eponymous Tavey Lean on Vocals, the band’s rock solid lineup includes Itay Kochva (Tenor Sax), Daniel Rothwell (Trombone), RC Granger (Trumpet), Bruno Lucas (Keys), Richard Barnes (Guitar), Ryan Brown (Bass) and Marco Brun del Re (drums). From the beginning, Solid Gold has been committed to bringing the funk and sweet soul to the four corners of Beijing and beyond. Solid Gold is the only cover band on the bill but their choice of cover songs will take you back and make you remember all those familiar funky tunes.
Disaster Chat
By far one of Beijing’s best original bands on the scene today. Fresh pop sounds mixed with ambient rock melodies and cranking breakdowns marks the pleasantries any ears will experience when indulging some DC bliss. Their mix of Chinese and English tunes creates the perfect atmosphere for today’s China rock audience and they never leave their fans disappointed. If you are looking for something other than Beijing’s endless sea of cover bands then Disaster Chat is the band for you. Led by Jesse Emmanuel (vocals/bass) and backed by Joe Bruce (guitar), Joe Harvey (guitar), and Justin Emmanuel (drums), Disaster Chat opened the Giving a Beat Charity Show 2016 last year and we are more than excited to see them in action again. Not only is Disaster Chat a fun and awesome band, the band members themselves are some of the most down to earth, ego-free individuals in the music scene today.
