Trevor Noah accuses lagging US of using political means to suppress Huawei in 5G

China's state television broadcaster CCTV aired Monday a clip from Trevor Noah’s 「The Daily Show」 in which the host joked that the United States banned Huawei products because Beijing is so far ahead of Washington when it comes to 5G technology. In the clip from the show’s regular 「If You Don’t Know, Now You Know」 segment, Noah jokingly said 5G 「is a race many people are already saying America has lost.」
「Recently, popular American talk show host Trevor Noah expressed his views on America’s relentless suppression of Huawei,」 the CCTV host said. 「He says the reason for the suppression is because Huawei possesses advanced 5G technology, while the US 5G lags far behind.」

Trevor Noah is a South African comedian, writer, producer, political commentator and television host. He is known for hosting The Daily Show, an American satirical news program on Comedy Central.

「So what exactly is the big deal about 5G? Because you might think it’s just 4G but a little bit faster. But it’s actually a lot faster. So fast, in fact, that it could change the world,」 Noah said on his show.
To download a two-hour film on 3G would take about 26 hours. On 4G, you』d be waiting six minutes. And on 5G, you』ll be ready to watch your film in just over three and a half seconds, according to the show.
所以，5G究竟了不起在哪裡呢？崔娃說除了下載一部完整電影只需要3秒外，5G更是一項改變遊戲規則的技術。他打比方說，5G技術將讓你不能再把信號不好當作不想接電話的藉口。
「And right now, the best 5G technology is made by a Chinese company called Huawei. And because the Chinese company is Chinese... many governments don’t trust how secure it’s gonna be,」 said Noah.
美國一直指責華為「不安全」，但卻又拿不出任何證據。崔娃在節目中說，西方指責華為，只因為它是「中國公司」（Chinese company）。就因為華為這家公司是中國的，很多政府都不相信它的安全性。
When the US won the 4G race earlier this decade, it provided a nearly $100 billion boost to gross domestic product. And the stakes of the 5G race are even higher. If the US wins, it would create an estimated three million jobs and add approximately $500 billion to its GDP, the show said.
崔娃談到，5G能夠極大促進經濟增長和相關就業，而成為全球5G技術供應商，並藉此監視每個人，「就是美國想要做的」。那美國究竟為什麼要指責華為？
「It’s like when you cut someone off in traffic and then someone else cuts in front of you, you’re like, 『Hey, that was my move!』 Those are the stakes (of 5G): job, money and power,」 Noah said.
為什麼美國現在不惜使用任何手段地想要佔領技術高地呢？崔娃一語中的：關鍵在於就業（job），金錢（money）和權力（power）。
崔娃這樣描述了美國的心理活動：「這就像你在開車時變道超車，然後又有其他人插到你前面，然後你說，『嘿，夥計！那是我的道！』」
他說，目前世界上最好的5G公司是中國的華為，中國的5G已經遙遙領先於美國，甚至可能要達到制定5G標準的地步。
「While America is developing its own 5G, China’s 5G is so far ahead. They’re basically going to set the trend,」 Noah said. 「So, this is a race many people are already saying America has lost.」
在說5G上的實力對比，崔娃打了一個很有趣的比方，他說美國5G和中國5G相比，就如同LD（雷射影碟）和DVD的區別。LD是上世紀80年代至90年代流行的雙面視頻光碟，已差不多被DVD完全代替，下圖左邊那個超大的就是：
「I can't believe I'm saying this — America is lucky you have a maniac on your team who's willing to play dirty. Trump could see America wasn't going to win,」 he added, "so he just got a crowbar and pulled a Tonya Harding on China's 5G."
「關於這場比賽，很多人都說美國已經輸了，」崔娃頗有諷刺意味地說。但「幸運」的是，美國現在正在不惜一切手段「逆風翻盤」。

「I don’t know how else America can win this race. Because even if America does mange to cripple Huawei and China, it’s not like America will suddenly have great 5G. You won’t just have 5G overnight unless America just pretends that it does,」 said Noah.
更重要的是，即便美國確實削弱了華為，美國也不會因此突然就有了強大的5G技術。
在22日的節目結尾，崔娃還提起了一件令人啼笑皆非的事。近日，美國第二大通信運營商AT&T將iPhone和iPad狀態欄中的「4G」網絡圖標更新為了「5G E」，但這並不是真的5G，僅是改進版4G，E代表Evolution（進化），「好比在一輛smart汽車上貼了蘭博基尼的標誌。」
崔娃在節目中的這些言論說到了不少美國網友的心坎裡，網友紛紛議論（截圖來自網絡）：
「中國政府用5G監視每個人：這是假設；美國政府用4G監視每個人：這是事實。」
