很久以前，在義大利的一個小村莊裡，住著一位以製作玩具為生的gepetto老爺爺。
Once upon a time, a man named Geppetto lived alone in an old village in Italy, making toys for the children who lived there.
老爺爺一個人生活，也沒有孩子，所以一直都是冷冷清清的，很孤單。
Geppetto felt lonely because he did not have any children.
有一天，老爺爺用質量很好的橡樹木頭精心雕刻了一隻玩偶，給他做了眼睛、鼻子和嘴巴，還給他起了名字叫作「匹諾曹」。
One day, Geppetto carefully carved a doll from the wood of a beautiful oak tree. He gave the doll eyes, a nose, and a mouth, and named it 「Pinocchio.」
然後把他當做自己的孩子一般，小心打理著，但不管怎麼愛惜玩偶，他終究還是不能像真的孩子一樣說話，也不會動。所以老爺爺心中的孤單還是沒能被驅散。
He treated the doll like it was his son, and he cherished it.
However, no matter how much he cherished the doll, it couldn't move or speak as it was not real.
Geppetto was still all alone.
一天晚上入睡前，老爺爺透過窗子看到了一顆特別閃亮的星星，於是向他許了個願望。
Then one night, before he fell asleep, he looked out his window and gazed upon a sparkling star at the window. He made a wish for a magical heart.
「請讓匹諾曹變成我真正的兒子吧。」
「Please let Pinocchio be my real son.」
就這樣，神奇的事情發生了。那天晚上老爺爺一睡著，一隻藍色的小精靈就從那顆閃亮的星星上飛了下來。
Then something strange happened.
That night, Geppetto fell asleep and the Blue Fairy came down from the sparkling star.
向木頭玩偶匹諾曹注入了生命，可是，他的身體卻還是木頭。
She gave life to the doll, Pinocchio.
But his body was still made of wood.
藍色小精靈向已經可以像人一樣自由活動的匹諾曹說道，
The Blue Fairy told Pinocchio that he could move like a man.
「現在開始，你就是gepetto老爺爺的兒子啦」
"From now on, you are Geppetto’s son."
「可是小精靈，我的身體還是木頭呀？不能讓我擁有和人一樣的身體嗎？」
"But dear fairy, I still have a wooden body. Can you make it the same as a person?"
匹諾曹嘟囔著說道，藍色小精靈又笑著說道
When Pinocchio said this to her, the Blue Fairy spoke with a smile.
「如果以後你真的能讓我看到你善良又勇敢的樣子，也能讓我相信你真的可以成為老爺爺的家人，那時候我再來把你變成真正的人。」
"If you can show me that you are really nice and courageous, and that you can be a part of Geppetto's family, then I will make you a real person."
藍色小精靈向匹諾曹約定後，就離開了。
The Blue Fairy left Pinocchio with her promise.
早上天亮了，gepetto老爺爺看到匹諾曹後嚇了一跳。
Geppetto was surprised to find that Pinocchio was alive.
「現在請把我當作您的兒子吧 爸爸」
"Think of me now as a son, dear father."
老爺爺看著會動又能說話的匹諾曹，心想可能是星星幫助他實現了願望，內心很是感激，於是，他開始變得幸福起來了。
Geppetto saw that Pinocchio could move and speak by himself.
He thought of the start he had wished upon and he was so happy and grateful.
老爺爺並不在意他的木頭身體，還把他當做自己的親生兒子一般十分愛惜。
Geppetto thought Pinocchio is really my son, and he loved Pinocchio so much. It never mattered to Geppetto that Pinocchio’s body was still made of wood.
儘管家裡很窮，但老爺爺還是為匹諾曹攢錢買了書，又送他去上學。
Even though he was poor, Geppetto gathered money to buy books for Pinocchio so he could send him to school.
因為他希望有著木頭身體的匹諾曹能夠多學些東西，以後能生活得舒服一些。
He hoped that going to school would help Pinocchio have an easier time in life, since life would already be difficult for him because he had a wooden body.
但是匹諾曹並不想去上學。因為大家都在嘲笑欺負有著玩偶身體的匹諾曹，而且上課的內容對他來講也太難了。
But Pinocchio did not want to go to school.
The children at school all teased Pinocchio because he had the body of a doll, and the lessons were too difficult.
可能是因為這樣，匹諾曹變得更加淘氣。有一天，他扔著水果商店裡的水果做著過分的惡作劇，被人抓了起來，結果卻是gepetto老爺爺替他進了監獄。
So Pinocchio became a trouble maker.
He threw fruit at a fruit shop and and pranked people around town.
Geppetto was sent to prison for the mistakes of his son..
等老爺爺回來的時候，匹諾曹在火爐前睡著了。
Pinocchio fell asleep in front of the fireplace while he waited for his father.
就這樣，匹諾曹的腿因為火爐裡蹦出來的火苗燒了起來，因為他是木頭做成的呀。就在他滅了火看著自己被燒焦的腿無所適從的時候，gepetto老爺爺回來了。
But spark from the fire flew out and landed on Pinocchio's wooden leg.
When he tried to put out the fire as he watched his legs burn.
Suddenly, Geppetto arrived back home.
匹諾曹向老爺爺請求著諒解。
Pinocchio begged for forgiveness.
「爸爸，是我錯了，以後再也不會做惡作劇了。」
"Father, I was wrong. I will not play games like that ever again."
Gepetto老爺爺原諒了匹諾曹，還給他做了一隻新腿。
Geppetto forgave Pinocchio and made him a new leg.
匹諾曹很感動，並暗下決心以後一定會認真上學。
Pinocchio was touched at his father’s forgiveness and decided to go to school to study hard.
