今天分享的繪本名字叫《Big Red Barn》，繪本的作者是瑪格麗特·懷斯·布朗，說到這個名字可能不太熟悉，但經常陪孩子讀繪本的家長對她的另外兩部作品《Goodnight Moon （晚安，月亮）和The Runaway Bunny (逃家小兔)》肯定不會陌生，都是世界經典繪本中的精品。
瑪格麗特是一位才華橫溢的女作家，她的這部《Big Red Barn》以優美清新的圖畫，簡潔平和的文字以及朗朗上口的韻律，充滿的濃濃的生活化氣息，營造出一種美好詩意的氛圍，是一本非常適合靜謐夜晚，陪著孩子甜甜入睡的故事書。

In the great green field.
在那綠綠的田野上，有一座大紅穀倉。
There was a pink pig
Who was learning to squeal.
There was a great big horse
And a very little horse.
有一隻粉色的小豬
正在練習尖叫。
有一匹大大的馬
和一匹小小的馬。
And on every barn
Is a weather vane, of course-
A golden flying horse.
當然，每個穀倉，都有一個風向標
大紅穀倉是一匹金色的飛馬。
There was big pile of hay
And a little pile of hay,
And that is where the children play.
But in this story the children are away.
Only the animals are here today.
有一大堆乾草，和一小堆乾草。
那是孩子們玩耍的地方。
但是在這個故事裡，孩子們到別處去了。
今天只有動物們在。
The sheep and the donkey,
The geese and the goats,
Were making funny noises.
Down in their throats.
And old scarecrow
Was leaning on his hoe.
And a field mouse was born.
綿羊，驢。
鵝，山羊。
從喉嚨發出有趣的聲音。
一個上了年紀的稻草人斜倚著鋤頭站立。
一直田鼠出生了……
In a field of corn.
在一片玉米地裡。
Cock-a-doodle dooooo!
In the barn there was rooster
And a pigeon, too
And a big white hen
Standing on one leg.
And under the hen
Was a quiet egg.

穀倉裡有隻公雞。
還有隻鴿子
一隻大白母雞單腿站立
身下一枚還沒孵化的蛋。
There was bantam rooster
And a little bantam hen
With a big clutch of eggs.
Count them. There are ten.

Moooooo! Moo!
There was a big brown cow
And a little brown cow.
有一隻矮腳公雞和一隻矮腳母雞。
以及一大窩蛋。數一數，有十個。
喔-喔-喔！哞·哞·哞！
有一頭棕色的大母牛和一頭棕色的小牛。
There was an old black cat,
Meow! Meow!
And a tiger tomcat,
Yeow! Yeow!
There was a big red dog,
Bow! Wow!
With some little puppy dogs
All round and warm.
有一隻黑色的老貓，
喵喵！
和一隻虎紋公貓，
喵嗚！喵嗚！
有一隻大紅狗。
汪汪！
和幾隻小狗圍在一起好暖和。
And they all lived together
In the big red barn
And they played all day
In the grass and in the hay
它們一起住在這座紅色的大穀倉裡。
它們終日嬉戲，在草地上，在乾草堆裡。
When the sun went down
In the great green field,
The big cow lowed
The little pig squealed
The horses stomped in the sweet warm hay,
And the little donkey gave one last bray.
當太陽落山，餘暉略過那片草地
大母牛低吟，小豬尖叫。
馬兒在甜甜溫暖的乾草上跺著蹄。
小驢發出最後一聲嘶鳴。
The hens were sleeping on their nests.
Even the roosters took a rest.
The little black bats flew away
Out of the barn at the end of the day
母雞們都在窩裡睡著了
連公雞們都休息了。
一群黑色的小蝙蝠飛走了，在一天結束的時候離開穀倉。
And there they were all night long
Sound asleep
動物們整夜安睡
In the big red barn.
在紅色大穀倉。
Only the mice were left to play,
Rustling and squeaking in the hay.
While the moon sailed high.
只有田鼠在玩耍，乾草堆裡吱吱。
此時月亮懸在空中。
In the dark night sky.
在黑色的夜空中。
