一次性塑料用品對人類造成了什麼影響？一起用英文來了解塑料對海洋所造成的汙染。

I’m determined to do something to protect our environment after seeing a picture of a sea turtle with a plastic straw up its nostril.Nadia: 對啊，我看到海龜鼻子卡著吸管的照片後，我就下定決心要做些什麼來保護我們的環境。Andrea: Many marine animals also mistake plastic bags forjellyfish and eat them.Andrea: 很多海洋生物也把塑膠袋誤認為水母吃下肚。Nadia: Indeed. It’s great to see many countries have started to ban them.Andrea: 對啊，但還好有許多國家已經禁止使用一次性塑料了。Nadia: And that’s why I bring my own reusable food ware every day.Nadia: 對啊，所以我才每天都帶自己的環保餐具。Andrea: You’re really doing your part. That reminds me, I have a spare cup carrier. Do you want it?Andrea: 你真的很有心，對了我想到我有多一個飲料提袋，你需要嗎？Nadia: Sure, thanks!Nadia: 當然好啊，謝啦！

不鏽鋼吸管
straw 除了有「稻草」的意思之外，還可表示「吸管」，stainless steel 則是「不鏽鋼」，所以 stainless steel straw 就是「不鏽鋼吸管」，也可以用 metal straw (金屬吸管) 泛稱；玻璃吸管則是 glass straw。若要表示「非塑料制的吸管」也可以說 reusable straw。
The stainless steel straw set includes one wide straw, one slim straw, and a cleaning brush.這個不鏽鋼吸管套組包括一支粗吸管、一支細吸管，跟一支清洗用的刷子。

一次性塑料
single 意指「單一的；一個的」，single-use plastic 就是「一次性的塑料產品」，為可數名詞，包括塑料吸管、塑料杯、塑料碗、塑膠袋等屬於一次性塑料產品，也可以用 disposable plastic (拋棄式塑料產品) 表示。
The new regulation is aimed at limiting the use of single-use plastics.新規定旨在限制一次性塑料的使用。
ban
禁止
ban 動名詞同形，指法律、規定上的「禁止」，意思相近的字詞 forbid 則是「上對下的禁止」。
The government has imposed a ban on the research of human cloning.政府強制禁止複製人的研究。
reusable food ware
環保餐具
「環保餐具」就是替代一次性餐具、可以重複使用 (reusable) 的餐具 (food ware)，因此英文稱之為 reusable food ware。
Using single-use plastics is bad for the environment; instead, we should use reusable food ware.使用一次性塑料產品對環境有害，我們應該要改用環保餐具才是。

飲料提袋
cup carrier 可以指店家提供的外帶「飲料杯架」，通常材質是塑料或厚紙板，也可以指環保的「飲料提袋」。
For the sake of the Earth, you should buy a cup carrier so you don't have to keep getting plastic bags.為了地球好，你應該買個飲料提袋，這樣你才不用一直拿塑膠袋。

There’s so much trash!Nadia: 哇喔！也太多垃圾了吧！Andrea: No wonder the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is getting bigger.Andrea: 怪不得太平洋垃圾帶越來越大。Nadia: Apart from marine debris, microbeads also threatenthe marine ecosystem.Nadia: 除了海洋垃圾之外，塑料微粒也威脅著海洋生態系統。Andrea: What are microbeads?Andrea: 什麼是塑料微粒？Nadia: They’re tiny bits of plastic that are commonly added to shampoo, cleansers, toothpaste, etc.Nadia: 塑料微粒就是很小的塑料碎片，常添加於沐浴乳、洗面奶、牙膏等產品裡面。Andrea: Wait… does that mean that if fish eat microbeads then we will end up eating them as well?Andrea: 等等…所以一旦魚吃進塑料微粒，我們最後也會吃到塑料微粒嗎？Nadia: Exactly. And they also cause coral bleaching that can even kill corals.Nadia: 沒錯，而且它還會造成珊瑚白化，甚至會讓珊瑚死亡。Andrea: Yikes. Good thing the sunscreen I bought is microbead free then!Andrea: 可怕。幸好我買的是「不含塑料微粒」的防曬乳！

debris 是不可數名詞，意為「碎片；殘骸」，字尾的 s 不發音，讀做 /dbri/，marine debris 就是「海洋廢棄物」。
90 per cent of all marine debrisconsists of plastics and Styrofoam.百分之九十的海洋廢棄物都是由塑料與泡沫聚苯乙烯組成。

塑料微粒
前綴 micro- 意為「小的；微的」，bead 是「小珠；珠子」，所以 microbead 就是「塑料微粒」。
Microbeads are invisible to the naked eye, but they pose a great threat to the environment.雖然肉眼看不見塑料微粒，但它們卻會對環境造成極大的威脅。

珊瑚白化
bleach 是「漂白水」、「使漂白」的意思，而 coral bleaching 就是讓珊瑚失去色彩的「珊瑚白化」。
If water temperatures keep rising, it will lead to coral bleaching.如果水溫持續升高，將會導致珊瑚白化。
該怎麼跟大自然和平共處，一直都是人類需要思考的課題。即使個人的力量很微小，我們還是可以透過少用一次性餐具多用環保餐具來保護地球哦！
