1. to finish doing something 停止某件事
ex. Stop hitting me!
別打我了！
ex. I need to stop laughing so much.
我要停下來了，笑得太開。
2. to pause during an activity 在一項活動期間暫停動作
ex. Let’s stop for lunch.
我們先停下來去吃午餐吧！
ex. They’re stopping at the supermarket on their way to the party.
他們前往派對的路上停在超市。
3. to block something 阻止某事
ex. We stopped the leaky pipe with a special glue.
我們用一種特殊的膠防止洩漏的管路。
ex. We stopped up the hole with old fabric.
我們用舊布料堵住了洞。
4. to cause not to move 使它不動
ex. Can you stop the car? I feel sick.
你可以停下車嗎？我感到不舒服。
ex. Stop moving! I’m trying to take your picture.
不要動！我要拍你～
5. to not operate 停止作業
ex. Uh-oh. My computer has stopped working.
噢噢，我的電腦不動了。
ex. They’re stopping work at the factory early today.

6. to stop by 順道拜訪
to visit for a short period of time 拜訪一小段時間
ex. Stop by the house sometime and say hello!
順道去拜訪這戶人家.打聲招呼吧。
ex. We’re gonna stop by the bar later.

7. stop at nothing 不顧一切
willing to do anything to achieve something 為了達成目標願意做任何事（毫無理由地）
ex. I』ll stop at nothing to get a date with that movie star!
不管怎樣我一定要和那位電影明星約會！
ex. He』ll stop at nothing to get that boat he wants.
他不顧一切要得到他想要的那艘船。

二、what英語單詞的實用方法
「 what 」 這個字可以創造很多語句，可以有很多不一樣的用法，今天我請到了一名講師列舉了what的11中短語用法，下面我們就一起來看看。
1. What’s the catch?
catch 在這裡有 trap 陷阱的意思，表示有什麼意圖嗎？有什麼內幕嗎？
ex. 當你質疑對方說的話時，你可以說 : What’s the catch?
2. What’s the drill?
drill 在這有 procedure 程序的意思。
ex. I want to order a computer for our company, what’s the drill?
我想幫公司訂一臺電腦，要怎麼做？(步驟是什麼？）
3. What do you say? 你覺得如何呢？It sounds like whadayasay. 詢問對方的意見！
ex. I’m hitting the beach on Sunday, I』d love you to join me, what do you say?
我星期日要去海灘，我想要你跟我一起去，好嗎？
4. What goes around, comes around.
在這指的是 karma 因果報應的意思。
ex. Hey, what goes around, comes around. I』ll come back with the revenge.
怎麼去就怎麼來，我會回來復仇的。
5. What do I owe you?
念起來像是 Whadaiowya。
指的是 How much do I need to pay you? 我要付你多少錢？
6. What’s eating him?
用於沮喪的人，或是生氣.煩亂的人。
表示你怎麼了？誰惹你生氣了或什麼在困擾你？
ex. 當有人看起來很生氣.惱怒時，你可以說：What’s eating him?
7. What are you getting at?
= What are you driving at?
類似 What do you really want to say? 的意思，你想說的重點是什麼？
ex. 當你和對方聊天時，你可能不太明白他想表達什麼，這時候就可以說：What are you getting at?
8. What’s done is done. 事已至此，都已經發生了。
表示對於過去發生的事情感到後悔，但它是沒辦法改變的。
ex. Oh, I wish I had gone to that place on that day, but I’m so sad I couldn’t just go there.
you say : Hey, buddy, what’s done is done.
9. What’s with…? 怎麼回事？
ex. Hey, what’s with the copy machine? 這影印機怎麼了？
10. What’s the deal with…?
deal 指的是進展.狀態。
ex. What’s the deal with the school project?
學校的計畫現在如何了？
11. What’s cooking?
= what’s up? = what’s happening?
ex. What’s cooking between you and John?
你和約翰怎麼了？
