My name is Paul James (芥末絲) and I’m an artist and designer from Manchester, UK, and a resident of Wuhan, just shy of 5 years, so far. This year I decided topartake in a yearly event called InkTober. InkTober is a drawing challenge that occurs everyOctober for artists everywhere to practice their inking skills and improvetheir ink drawing habits. Created by Jake Parker in 2009, more and more artiststake part in this challenge every year.
我是Paul James (芥末絲)，來自英國曼切斯特的藝術家\設計師，現居武漢，將近五年。今年我參加了 InkTober墨水繪畫月。InkTober是每年10月進行的一次繪畫挑戰，全世界的藝術家藉此機會練習墨水繪畫技能和提升水墨繪畫習慣。2009年JakeParker 發起這個挑戰，之後越來越多的藝術家每年都會加入這個挑戰。
During InkTober peoplehave often asked me, "Why do you do this?", which got me thinking,"Why not?" Why do we do anything? I guess sometimes for personalgain, for fun, maybe because we have/need to. For me, this exercise was a goodchance to try something new, step outside my comfort zone.
在InkTober墨水繪畫月期間，經常會被問道：「你為什麼要做這個?」我想：「為什麼不呢?」我們做每件事的意義是什麼？我想有時為了個人利益，有時純屬好玩，也或許是必須要做。對我來說，這是一次很好的練習機會，嘗試新事物，走出我的繪畫舒適區。
Ink isn't my main choiceof medium, although as an angsty teenager I did dabble in excessive black ink,especially during my metal-music-listening phase. I perhaps feel most at homewith a pencil, there's something comforting about the lack of permanence. Whereas inkstains, pencil politely sits on the paper, kindly allowing for mistakes to begently wiped from existence.
墨水不是我繪畫的首選，儘管在狂躁的少年時代，我曾涉獵過的黑色墨水繪畫，尤其那時我還特別喜歡聽金屬音樂。對我而言，鉛筆繪畫是最輕鬆自在的，不必擔心畫錯了改不了。而墨水一旦畫錯了就糟了，就不像鉛筆那麼友善，可以輕輕擦掉錯誤的地方。
Colour is anotherarea which I often shy away from. Even during InkTober, sometimes I'd use justa dash of colour to compliment a dark piece of work. Though using the Ecolineinks was an exciting new challenge, occasionally resulting in some very vividfinal pieces.
顏色是我經常迴避的另一個領域。即使是在InkTober期間，我也只是會用一抹彩色來襯託深色調的作品。使用彩色墨水是令人興奮的新挑戰，但偶爾會產生一些非常生動的最終畫作。
Overall I think theInkTober challenge was worth the effort, after all, practice does makeperfect. And the response from friends was very inspiring, I owe an awful lotof thanks for all the encouraging words that kept me going.
總的來說，我認為InkTober挑戰是值得的，畢竟，熟能生巧。朋友們的反饋也非常鼓舞人心，非常感謝大家的鼓勵，支持我繼續畫下去。
During InkTober therewere some requests for prints of the more popular designs, so I asked you allto vote for your favourite works, with the highest voted pieces being given alimited-hand-signed print-run.

This print run is limited to 10 prints per design and oncethey’re gone, they’re gone. The price is 50¥ per print, which includes postage and packaging. Each print is printed on A5 300gsm,high-quality, matt-finished card. All copies are numbered from 1 to 10 to show theirunique identity, and all prints are hand-signed and stamped for authenticity.
