Hey! This is Emma from mmmEnglish!
In this lesson, you're going to learn six phrasal verbs using the verb 'pick'.
大家好!我是Emma,歡迎來到Emma的美味英語!
在本節課程中,我們將會學習六個和動詞「pick」有關的動詞詞組。
Now, you know all about phrasal verbs by now, don't you?
You probably can't stand them!
大家現在都知道動詞詞組是什麼意思了,對吧?
你可能無法忍受它們!
But the truth is, you need to understand them and you need to recognise them when you see them and hear them.
And of course, you need to learn how to use them!
但是事實是,你需要理解它們,當看到它們、聽到它們的時候,你需要立馬認出它們。
當然了,你需要學習如何使用它們!
They are just so commonly used in English.
I'm always surprised by how many times I hear them in conversation or how many times I read them when I'm looking through a blog post.
它們在英文中非常常見。
我在對話當中聽到它們的次數或者是在看博客的時候看到它們的次數簡直是令人震驚。
They're everywhere! But they are frustrating to learn!
它們無所不在!但是它們學起來卻並不簡單!
The same phrasal verb can have different meanings and rules that you need to understand and they're not always the same.
Some phrasal verbs are really common, others, not so much.
同一個動詞詞組可能會有不同的意思和規則,需要你去理解,而且它們並不總是相同的。
有些動詞詞組非常常見,但是其他的就不那麼常見了。
But don't worry we're going to go over some of the common phrasal verbs using the verb, 'pick'.
Let's dive in!
但是不要擔心,我們先來學習一些和「pick」這個動詞相關的常見動詞詞組吧。
讓我們開始吧!
Phrasal verbs are made up of a verb and either a preposition or an adverb like 'pick at'.
Now, this is a phrasal verb that is transitive and inseparable.
動詞詞組是由動詞和介詞或者是副詞組成的,比如說「pick at」(吃得很少,挑食)。
這個動詞詞組是及物的,而且不能分開。
If you're not sure what that means, I've made a whole other video about it right here.
But this phrasal verb is inseparable because the words can't be separated.
如果你不確定那是什麼意思的話,這邊有另一個視頻介紹它呢,就在這裡。
但是這個動詞短語是不可分的,因為單詞不能離開彼此。
They need to stay together at all times.
And it's transitive because it doesn't make any sense on its own.
它們需要一直待在一起。
而且這是個及物動詞詞組,因為它自身並沒有什麼意思。
You can't just pick at. Pick at what?
你不能只是「pick at」。「Pick at」什麼東西?
You need to pick at something like food.
Children often pick at their food!
你需要少量地吃什麼東西,比如說食物。
孩子們經常會磨蹭地吃東西!
Or someone who's distracted or disappointed, annoyed or upset, usually they pick at their food when they're eating.
You've done this before!
或者是,當有人心不在焉、失望、憤怒或者是心情苦悶的時候,他們通常都不怎麼吃東西。
你之前就這麼做過!
When you only eat a small amount because you're not really interested in it so you just push the food around your plate.
Awful! He hardly made eye contact at all and he just picked at his dinner all night.
當你只吃一點點東西的時候,因為你對食物不感興趣,所以你一直在擺弄盤子裡的食物。
太可怕了!他和我全程零眼神交流,晚餐也只吃了一點點。
I don't think I'll see him again.
To 'pick at' can also mean to touch something many times in an annoying way.
我再也不會和他見面了。
「Pick at」還有個意思就是摸某個東西很多很多次,而這種方式很令人討厭。
It's often used with sores. To 'pick off'.
一般是和瘡瘍一起使用的。「Pick off」
Now, this means to remove.
This phrasal verb is separable, the words can be separated.
這個詞組的意思是去掉。
這個動詞詞組是可分離的,這兩個單詞可以分開。
Order whatever pizza you want, I'll just pick the mushrooms off!
Or, I'll just pick off the mushrooms.
點你想吃的披薩吧,我把蘑菇挑掉就行!
或者是,我把蘑菇挑掉就行!
'Pick on'. Now, this phrasal verb is not the opposite of 'pick off' and that's one of the annoying things about English phrasal verbs, they're not always logical.
「Pick on」這個動詞詞組不是「pick off」的反義詞,這就是英語動詞詞組的討厭之處之一,它們毫無邏輯。
To pick on someone means to bully them or be mean or cruel to them.
At school, the smaller, quieter children are often picked on by the bigger children.
「Pick on」某人的意思是欺負他們,或者是對他們很刻薄很殘忍。
在學校裡,年紀小的、安靜的孩子通常會被大孩子們欺負。
Teenagers often pick on the new kid at school.
If you're being picked on at school, you should talk to the teacher about it.
青少年經常在學校裡欺負新來的孩子。
如果你在學校被欺負了,你應該告訴老師這個情況。
'Pick on' is also transitive, so you must always say what is being picked on.
Have you heard of the expression 'pick on someone your own size? '
「Pick on」也是及物的,所以你必須一直說什麼東西被「picked on」。
你聽過「不要以大欺小」這個表達嗎?
It's used for telling someone to stop criticising or attacking someone else who is smaller or weaker than them.
It's very common!
這是用來告訴別人不要批評或者是攻擊那些比他們小或者是比他們弱的人。
它很常見!
'Pick out' This is also a transitive phrasal verb and it's most often used when you're choosing or recognising something from a bigger group.
「Pick out」這也是個及物動詞詞組,它一般用在當你從從一大堆東西中選出或者認出某個東西的情況。
So for example. Pick out one of the pastries to buy for your grandma.
比如說。從這些油酥面點裡面挑一個買給你奶奶。
He's really tall, easy to pick out in a crowd! Okay, so far so good, right?
他真的很高,在人群中非常出挑!好的,到目前為止還不錯,是吧?
But what about 'pick up'?
'Pick up' is a little more complicated because there are lots of different ways that you can use this phrasal verb but don't let that scare you!
但是「pick up」呢?
「Pick up」的情況有一點點複雜,因為這個動詞短語有很多不同的使用方式,但是不要望而卻步!
It's also one of the most frequently used phrasal verbs so it's worth spending some extra time on.
It can mean to lift something up from the ground or the floor or a table, any flat surface really.
它也是最常用的動詞詞組之一,所以多花點時間是值得的。
它的意思之一是從地上、從地板上或者是從桌子上拿起某件東西,只要是平面上就可以。
Can you pick up the baby?
There was rubbish on the ground, so I picked it up.
你能把孩子抱起來嗎?地上有垃圾,所以我把它給撿起來了。
See how this phrasal verb can be separable or inseparable, either way is correct. It can also mean to get someone in a car.
這個動詞詞組既可以分開,也可以合在一起。它還有個意思是開車接某人。
I need to pick up Tom at 6 o'clock.
Hi mum, it's me! It's raining and I forgot an umbrella, can you come pick me up?
我需要在六點鐘去接湯姆。媽媽,是我是我!
天下雨了,但是我忘記帶傘了,你能來接下我嗎?
It can also mean to collect something.
Can you pick up dinner on the way home?
它還有個意思是收東西。
你能在回家的路上把晚餐給買了嗎?
Your dry cleaning is ready to be picked up.
'Pick up' can also mean to improve or increase or get stronger.
你乾洗的衣服可以收走啦。
「Pick up」還可以指提升、增加或者是變得更加強壯。
It was so nice at the beach this morning, until the wind picked up.
The train was picking up speed as it left the city.
今天早晨沙灘超級棒,直到狂風大作。
火車一離開城市就加速了。
It can also mean to obtain or acquire something, often not a physical object but something like knowledge or a skill.
I lived in Ho Chi Minh City for a year, so I picked up a bit of Vietnamese.
它還有個意思是獲得某個東西,通常不是物質性的東西,是像知識或者技能這種東西。
我在胡志明市住了一年,所以我學會了一點點越南語。
I picked up a cold while I was on holiday. Okay, last one for 'pick up'.
我度假的時候感冒了。好的,「pick up」的最後一個意思。
And actually, this meaning is quite informal, it's quite colloquial.
It can mean to start talking with someone at a bar or a club, with something else in mind.
其實呢,這個意思非常的不正式,非常地口語化。
它可以指在酒吧或者夜總會和某人搭訕,腦子裡有些其他的想法。
You're talking to them because you like the look of them and you might want to go home with them that night.
So you can also use 'pick up' to suggest that!
你和他們說話是因為你喜歡他們的皮囊,而且你可能想和他們一起過夜。
所以你可以使用「pick up」來暗示這種情況!
Johnny only comes out with us to pick up girls!
Sarah went home last night with a guy she picked up at the bar.
約翰尼和我們出去只是為了和妹子搭訕!
莎拉昨晚和她在酒吧搭訕的男人一起回家了。
And lastly, to 'pick up on' which can mean to become aware of something. When you pick up on something, it's not as simple as being told something by someone else.
最後呢,「pick up on」的意思是意識到某件事情。
當你意識到某件事情的時候,不是被別人告知這麼簡單。
If you pick up on it, you learn about it in little pieces of information that you connect together in your own mind.
So for example, you might pick up on the fact that your sister is upset because her boyfriend broke up with her.
如果你意識到了這件事情,你是通過細碎的信息,然後在腦中將它們拼合到一起來了解到的。
比如說,你可能意識到你姐姐很傷心,因為她男朋友和她分手了。
That's another phrasal verb and it means that her boyfriend ended their relationship.
But you know about this not because she told you about it but because you observed her behaviour and heard the frustration in her voice.
那是另一個動詞詞組,意思是她的男朋友宣告了他們之間關係的結束。
但是你知道並不是因為她告訴了你這件事情,而是因為你觀察到了她的行為舉止,聽到了她聲音中的沮喪。
You picked up on it and then you guessed.
Did you hear that Steven's been fired?
你注意到了這些信息,然後做出猜測。
你聽到史蒂文被炒了嗎?
Not officially, but I did pick up on it in this morning's meeting.
Now I know that you get frustrated with the number of phrasal verbs that you need to know.
並不是正式的,但是我從今天早晨的會議中猜到了。
現在我知道你們肯定對你們需要知道的這一堆動詞短語感到非常沮喪。
Once you learn a couple, there are literally hundreds that follow!
But don't give up!
學會了這些之後,還有更多的在等你這!
但是不要放棄哦!
My biggest tip is to focus on just a small number, just a handful each week.
Make the ones that you learnt in this lesson, your focus this week.
我最大的技巧就是每周專攻很少幾個短語。
把本節課程中你需要的這幾個當成本周的專攻點吧。
Use them in sentences, look for them, study them.
Don't worry about all of the others, just focus on these ones, this week.
使用它們造句,留心尋找它們,進行學習。
不要擔心其他的,這周就專攻這幾個。
