非裔美國人弗洛伊德被白人警察涉嫌暴力執法致死一事，引發全美各地抗議，事態不斷升級，部分地區甚至出現打砸搶燒等暴力行為。
當地時間6月1日，遭暴力執法致死的喬治·弗洛伊德的弟弟，特倫斯·弗洛伊德（Terrence Floyd）首次來到哥哥遇害現場參加悼念儀式，並向抗議示威人群發表演講，呼籲不要付諸暴力，應改變抗爭方式，用手中的選票說話。
George Floyd's brother Terrence Floyd has pleaded for peace at a prayer vigil at the site of his brother’s murder in Minneapolis on Monday, where he called for protesters to 「do this another way…and vote」.

他質問人群，「我理解你們的沮喪情緒，但你們的難過能有我一半多麼？」「即便如此，我都沒有在外面參與暴亂，我沒有在這裡炸毀東西，我沒在這裡搞亂社區。那你們在做什麼？」
In a passionate speech calling for peace, Terrence said: 「I understand you’re upset, but I doubt you’re half as upset as I am. So if I’m not over here blowing up stuff, if I’m not over here messing up my community, then what are you doing?」
他還說示威者做的一點用都沒有，「都沒法讓我哥哥回來」。
You're are doing nothing – because that's not going to bring my brother back at all.
之後他表示，自己和家人當然很難過，但不會這樣做（暴力示威），「我們不要再重蹈覆轍了。每次警察暴力執法，都會進入同樣的循環。你們抗議，你們打砸東西，但他們卻不為所動。因為被打砸的不是他們的東西，是我們的東西。他們就是想讓我們自毀家園。」
We are not going to be repetitious. In every case of police brutality the same thing has been happening. Ya』ll protest, ya』ll destroy stuff and they don’t move，because it’s not their stuff it’s our stuff, so they want us to destroy our stuff.
他還呼籲大家要用手中選票說話，「讓我們換種方式發聲。不要再認為我們的聲音不重要，然後去投票吧！不僅僅是總統或國會議員投票，每個層級都要投票。」
Let's do this another way. Let's stop thinking that our voice don't matter and vote. Not just vote for the president, vote for the preliminaries, vote for everybody.

而在前一天，一則美國「老、中、青」三代非裔男子在抗議現場激烈爭論的視頻，也在社交媒體上傳開，引發網友熱議。

視頻一開始，年齡最大（45歲）的非裔男子情緒激動，表示已經受夠了美國歧視黑人的社會現狀，「我們總得站出來團結在一起，沒有人會來保護我們。」
在他身旁，另一位31歲的非裔男子先是表示自己理解他的心情，之後他拉來邊上僅16歲的非裔少年說道：「他才16歲，他才16歲啊！這樣不是辦法！」
得知這名少年才16歲，人群中出現了零星的驚嘆聲，有人說「他會被殺死」。31歲男子繼續表示，「美國總統說了，『有人搶劫，我們就開槍！』你覺得這些還有用嗎？」
The United States』 president said 『if you loot, we shoot』. Do you think this is going to help?
45歲的男子依然無法抑制憤怒，喊道：「但現在是時候站出來了，我已經準備好赴死了!」
聽到這裡，31歲的非裔男子既激動又絕望，聲音哽咽地對16歲少年發出了肺腑之言：
「你現在看到的一切，在10年後還會發生。你26歲的時候，會做和我正在做的一樣的事。」
What you see right now, it’s going to happen 10 years from now. And at 26, you gonna be doing the same thing I’m doing now.
「16歲的你現在應該做的事，是想出更好的解決方法。因為我們的方法不管用。」
What I need y』all to do right now at 16, is to come up with a better way. Cause how we’re doing it, it ain’t working.
「他46歲了還在憤怒，我31歲也在憤怒，而你16歲就在憤怒了。」
He’s angry at 46, I’m angry at 31, and you’re angry at 16.
最後，他勸導少年保護好自己，希望年輕人能找到更好的辦法來改變這一切。
「你明白嗎？將你自己置於危險之地不是解決問題的辦法！你和你有一樣力量的同齡人，你們要想出更好的辦法啊，因為我們什麼都沒做成。」
Putting yourself in harm’s way is not the way. You and other of your counterparts at the same age has that same power. Y』all come up with a better way, cause we ain’t doing it.

這位31歲非裔男子的肺腑之言，正和特倫斯·弗洛伊德的演講觀點不謀而合。「以暴制暴」，並不能真正解決問題。不少人認為，換種方式抗爭，才能結束這幾代以來的循環。
美國前總統歐巴馬也在推特上轉發了特倫斯·弗洛伊德在悼念現場的演講視頻，配文引用了特倫斯的話，「讓我們換一種方式發聲(Let's do this another way)」……
當地時間29日，歐巴馬已針對「弗洛伊德之死」表態，他稱這樣的殺戮「在2020年不該是正常的。（This shouldn’t be 『normal』 in 2020 America.） 」。
在聲明中他表示，「隨著一場大流行病和經濟危機顛覆了周圍的一切，人們希望生活』回歸正常』。然而我們要記住，對數百萬美國人而言，因種族而被區別對待已成為一種』常態』，悲劇的、痛苦的，也是令人憤怒的'常態』。無論是和醫療保健系統或是與刑事司法系統打交道時，或是在街上慢跑，或只是在公園裡看鳥，都存在這樣的』常態』。
"It’s natural to wish for life 'to just get back to normal' as a pandemic and economic crisis upend everything around us. But we have to remember that for millions of Americans, being treated differently on account of race is tragically, painfully, maddeningly 』normal』— whether it’s while dealing with the health care system, or interacting with the criminal justice system, or jogging down the street, or just watching birds in a park."
