Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian scientist, botanist, anatomist, engineer, inventor, mathematician, architect, sculptor, musician, writer, and painter. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest painters of all time and the most talented polymath ever to have lived. He was born in 1452 in Vinci, Italy, and died in 1519.
Da Vinci's most famous paintings are "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper". As an engineer, Da Vinci conceptualized many of our modern inventions such as helicopters, tanks, calculators, and solar power. However, most of his inventions could not be constructed because the science of that time was not advanced enough. As an anatomist, Da Vinci cut open human corpses and did many drawings of the human skeleton and its parts, muscles and sinews, the sex organs, and various internal organs. His studies in science and engineering were recorded in his notebooks comprising about 13,000 pages of drawings, scientific diagrams, and ideas on the nature of painting.
Leonardo da Vinci was a vegetarian, because he believed that killing animals was wrong. It is said that his father was a Florentine notary, and his mother may have been a slave from the Middle East.
Da Vinci was an all-around genius, whose paintings and inventions changed our world. However, we may never completely understand who he really was.
