The flood crest of the Huaihe River is advancing toward its lower reaches, with the water level higher than the warning level at a section between Wangjiaba and Tianjia'an on the river's middle reaches.
According to the flood control and drought relief headquarters of east China's Anhui Province, the flood-prone Huaihe River is expected to have more rains in upcoming few days, imposing great pressure for flood control operation along the river.
A total of 115 dangerous sections were reported along the river valley by Friday. They have already been reinforced, the headquarters said.
The water level at the Wangjiaba in Funan County rose to 28.02meters by 2:00 p.m. Friday, 0.52 meters higher than the warning mark, and that at the Tianjia'an in Huainan City hit 22.69 meters,0.39 meters higher than the warning level.
Over the weekend, there will be a moderate rain at the northern bank of the Huaihe River. Some regions may be stricken by heavy rains. Thunder storms will hit areas on the river's southern bank, according to local meteorologists.
Huaihe flows from west to east, with the Yellow River in the northand the Yangtze River in the south. Originating in the Tongbo Mountains in Henan Province. It flows through Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu Provinces in the eastern part of China before entering the Yangtze River via the Hongze Lake.
