After visiting Cambridge, we returned to London, the capital of the United Kingdom, whose famous places of interest attracted us deeply.
After we arrived at the first station in London, we went to the famous Greenwich Observatory. The observatory often appears in the geography book, because the zero longitude of the meridian crosses in them, which is the beginning for the earth fixed coordinate system. Various instruments are on display which were used to observe stars and measure longitude and latitude in the exhibition hall. The instrument of latitude. These instruments seem humble. Imagining that British astronomers used these simple astronomical instruments to observe sky all day and night to create the most advanced science at that time, people can not help but filled with a thousand regrets.
It was noon before we left the observatory .At first It was clear , then suddenly it began to rain. After having lunch in a hurry, we went to the quay in heavy rain, there we would go on a boat trip across the Thames River in London. With the bridge look, we set out . The strong wind on the river made us feel cold. We were excited by the view of the Thames. As the ship pushes the waves , the tower looked clearer and clearer. This is the Tower Bridge which is not only tall but magnificent ! The water is clear under the bridge,.The river was reflected in the blue sky and white clouds, without the slightest fog traces.
The second day, we went to the world famous The London Eye. In the morning, clouds floated across, the sun was shining. The beautiful The London Eye is just bathed in the sunlight. The Ferris wheel has no ancient history, but it contained an inspirational story. When t a couple were building it, its chains fractured, the couple didn’t give up ,at last they created the The London Eye--London landmark. Suddenly, not far from here came the bell. It is Big Ben. The big clock is located on the Thames. Next to it is Westminster which is classical and stately. The parliament building witnessed the decline of Imperial power and the arrival of modern democratic society. Near the No. 10 Downing street-- the prime minister’s official residence. The door was closed, only the guarder stood there . After a long journey, we came to the Queen's office---Buckingham Palace. The British flag fluttered on the palace, The statue of Queen Victoria stood on the square.
British Museum is the last leg of the trip to London. The museum has plenty of collections of various kinds. Most of the collections were looted by war which showed the glory and hegemony of Britain. Looking at these relics from China ,we recalled the desolation of the late Qing Dynasty. We could not help but sigh: falling behind will be beaten.
Sitting in the car to Brighton, we watched the sunset.I was melancholy, I thought of the poem by Xin Qij and my home in China .
