幾個-plasia
-plasia是生長的意思，有幾個帶-plasia的詞容易讓人混淆。
1）dysplasia強調的是abnormal development，dys就是異常的意思，dysplasia也包括congenital absence；
2）hypoplasia強調的是incomplete development，即發育不全，hypo就是減少降低的意思，如hypotension；
3）hyperplasia是enlargement of a bodily organ or part resulting from an increase in the total number of cells，即由於細胞數目增多，導致的組織器官變大（hypertrophy是由於細胞體積增大，導致組織器官變大）。
那麼問題來了，「髓系異常增生」怎麼寫？又有異常，又有增生，但最終落腳點還是增生所以應該寫成：myeloid hyperplasia。
加冠詞與否的幾個簡單判斷原則
1）器官、組織、通路、系統、方法、基因之類的前面加the；
2）特指之前提到的對象加the；單數可數名詞出現的時候要考慮加a或者the；
3）不可數名詞和複數名詞如果不是特指前面提到的可以不加任何冠詞;
4）表示某種動作的名詞常常前面不加the，如co-injection of / surgery for / knockdown of等。
破折號（em dash； —）、連接號（en dash；–）、連字符（hyphen； -）的區別
破折號（em dash； —）、連接號（en dash；–）、連字符（hyphen； -）由長到短，足以把人弄暈。三者的區別如下：
hyphen（-）用於複合詞，如up-regulated、co-infection、non-linear；
en dash（–）用於表示數據範圍，如2000–2008；需要注意的是，如果數據範圍裡有負數，儘量避免用en dash，如：-5–10（錯誤）/ -5 to 10 (正確)； -8–-6（錯誤）/ -8 to -6（正確）。
em dash（—）的用法比較靈活。
1）相當於括號或一組逗號，用於插入語，如：
These three cytokines—IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-a—are thought to play important roles in the development of ....
These three cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-a) are thought to play important roles in the development of ....
These three cytokines, IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-a, are thought to play important roles in the development of ....
2）相當於冒號、分號，對前面的話進行解釋、總結，如：
We reviewed the clinical data of patients—age of onset, BMI, biochemical parameters, treatment outcome, ....
We reviewed the clinical data of patients: age of onset, BMI, biochemical parameters, treatment outcome, ....
