「代溝」,指年輕一代與老一代由於經驗、觀點、習慣和行為等的不同而存在心理距離或心理隔閡(a situation in which older and younger people do not understand each other because of their different experiences, opinions, habits, and behavior)。
She's a young politician who manages to bridge the generation gap.
「A negative mind will never find success. I have never heard a positive idea come from a person in a negative state.」
— Jay Samit, CEO
Why are we trying to go to Mars? It sounds like something from the realms of
science fiction – a
space expedition into the
vast expanse of space, heading towards
the Red Planet. While we’re not quite ready to put a person on
terra firma, the question we ask today is: why are so many countries interested in going to Mars? The
space race saw the USA and USSR compete to achieve firsts in
spaceflight. The Soviet Union released Sputnik 1, an
artificial satellite, before anyone else, and the US landed on the Moon first. Now it appears that Mars is the
celestial body of desire. While the kudos and bragging rights to be the first nation to
touchdown is an obvious draw, there are other reasons we want to get there. One of these could be the survival of our
species. You only have to look at the fossilised remains of the dinosaurs to see the benefit of finding another
habitable planet. While Mars doesn’t have the right conditions to call it home just yet, there’s always the concept of
terraforming – changing the environment of a planet to suit our needs. However, not everyone agrees. Leading
astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has said the concept of altering
habitability of another planet because of the damage we have done to
Earth makes no sense when we can simply terraform Earth. It seems the main reason at the moment is the search for
extraterrestrial life. It has long been believed that, at one time, Mars was abundant with life. Now seemingly dead, the potential fossils could answer questions about our own evolution and that of our planet. One theory is that
bacterial life on our planet didn’t start here, but was transferred via
asteroid from Mars. One benefit championed by scientists like Neil deGrasse Tyson is that landing on Mars may inspire more people to become interested in science and
astronomy. Surely inspiring a new generation to visit the stars is reason enough.

The little donkey struggled under its heavy burden.
the burden of responsibility
My elderly mother worries that she's a burden to me.
Buying a house often places a large financial burden on young couples.
The maximum load for this elevator is eight persons.
One truck involved in the accident was carrying a heavy load of coal.
I wish I could do something to lighten your load (= make your situation easier).
因為他們不喜歡「give and take」。 Those who don't appreciate
give and take are not likely to listen to others.
It's natural for couples to argue once in a while. But whether those two people will have a long future together often depends on how well they work out their differences. Conflicts shouldn't always be about one person being right and the other wrong. There has to be a healthy
give and take. Without that ability to negotiate, couples can't survive.
英文裡有句話叫「my way or the highway!」 Do you negotiate with others or do you feel that
give and take is a sign of weakness?
Our labor union has few complaints with the managers of our factory. That's because everyone works pretty well together. Whenever there's a conflict, we sit down together and discuss the best way to deal with it. Each side is willing to let the other get some of what it wants. That
give and take makes for a much better environment.
國內:chinadaily.com.cn,hjenglish.com,kekenet.com,enfamily.cn,okread.info,dailyenglishquote.com,qq.com,163.com,...
