今天是中國的傳統節日重陽節，和大多數傳統節日一樣，重陽節也有古老的傳說。

相傳在東漢時期，汝河有個瘟魔，只要它一出現，家家就有人病倒，天天有人喪命，這一帶的百姓受盡了瘟魔的蹂躪。

後來人們就把重陽節登高的風俗看作是免災避禍的活動。另外，在中原人的傳統觀念中，雙九還是生命長久、健康長壽的意思，所以後來重陽節被立為才老人節。

注釋 NOTES

2、賞菊。農曆九月俗稱菊月，節日舉辦菊花大會，傾城的人潮赴會賞菊。從三國魏晉以來，重陽聚會飲酒、賞菊賦詩已成時尚。在漢族古俗中，菊花象徵長壽。
3、登高。重陽節首先有登高的習俗，金秋九月，天高氣爽，這個季節登高遠望可達到心曠神怡、健身祛病的目的。
4、吃重陽糕。九月九日天明時，以片糕搭兒女頭額，口中念念有詞，祝願子女百事俱高，乃古人九月作糕的本意。講究的重陽糕要作成九層，像座寶塔，上面還作成兩隻小羊，以符合重陽(羊)之義。有的還在重陽糕上插一小紅紙旗，並點蠟燭燈。這大概是用「點燈」、「吃糕」代替「登高」的意思，用小紅紙旗代替茱萸。
5、飲菊花酒。重陽佳節，中國有飲菊花酒的傳統習俗。菊花酒，在古代被看作是重陽必飲、祛災祈福的「吉祥酒」。
