CAM’s New Executive Committee Members Visited Taipa Ferry Terminal
Study the Plan of Terminal 2 to Meet Airport’s Future Development
On 14th April, 2020, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) Dr. Deng Jun and the new Executive Committee members, which include: Mr. Chu Tan Neng, Mr. Kan Cheok Kuan, Mr. Lei Si Tai and Mr. Leung Henry Yee Hang, with the directors of various department visited Taipa Ferry Terminal, together with Mr. Simon Chan the President of Civil Aviation Authority (AACM). To go through the details of renovation for part of the ferry terminal to become the 「Second Terminal Building」 of the airport, and discuss the foreseeable problem and the work plan for the next step. During the site inspection, everyone exchanged opinions on various aspects of the terminal design, hardware equipment, road planning, passenger movement, baggage transportation, security system, commercial space, boarding process etc, hoping to work out the timetable as soon as possible, to ensure the renovation and expansion of the terminal will be completed on quality, quantity, and on time.
In recent years, the passenger volume of Macao International Airport (MIA) has maintained a steady growth. In 2019, it has exceeded 9.6 million passengers and is expected to enter the tens million level airport. With the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Planning Outline" supporting the reconstruction and expansion of MIA and the development of regional business jet, it has set a clear development direction and brought unprecedented opportunities for the local civil aviation industry. In order to meet the long term development in the future, MIA has actively promoted various optimization work and expansion projects. The first phase of the MIA South Extension Project has been officially launched and is expected to be completed by the middle of next year. Upon completion, the passenger reception capacity of the overall passenger terminal building will be increased from the current 7.8 million passengers per year to 10 million passengers, 3 more aircraft loading bridges will be installed, which will add the total number of the loading bridge up to 8 when accomplished. The floor area will increase by approximately 17,000m2, providing more passengers waiting space, optimizing the travel experience, and improving operational efficiency.
Despite the impact by the outbreak of COVID-19, the development of the global civil aviation industry has slowed down, but as the epidemic is gradually being controlled, all parts of the countries resume work in an orderly manner, and introduce measures to stimulate economic growth, with the increasing demand for business travel and overseas tourism growth, civil aviation economy is expected to be eased and repaired. MIA will continue to uphold the core value "safety, efficiency, and effectiveness", and continue striving to provide the passengers with safe and comfortable environment and services in conformity with people & honesty oriented principle, to pull back the development to its orbit as soon as the epidemic is over.
