BASEBALL HALL OF FAME
On January 29, 1936, the first baseball players were elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Baseball Hall of Fame honors great baseball players.
The first five players to be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 were Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, and Walter Johnson.
Ty Cobb is considered the greatest all-round player in the history of baseball. He could play more than one position, and play them all well.
Babe Ruth is the best-known baseball player. He is the most popular of all baseball players. He is known for the many home runs he hit.
Honus Wagner is still considered one of the greatest hitters and fielding shortstops (遊擊手). He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for 18 years.
Christy Mathewson and Walter Johnson were both pitchers(投手). Mathewson won 373 games while playing for the New York Giants. Johnson won 416 games and played for the Washington Senators.
The Baseball Hall of Fame is in a museum located in Cooperstown, New York. It is there that all hall of famers are honored. The village of Cooperstown was chosen as the site for the museum because it was said that the first game of baseball was played there in 1839.
The Baseball Hall of Fame is rich in baseball history. Here, baseballs, bats, uniforms, gloves, paintings, and much more can be found. The museum has a valuable collection that covers the history of how baseball has changed throughout the years.
Every year, millions of people visit the Baseball Hall of Fame. Baseball fans and non- baseball fans come to see the history behind one of America’s favorite pastimes.
