Games, memes and virtual red envelopes, how do the Chinese Gen-zers celebrate the Lunar New Year? / So you were born in the Year of the Ox, what does that even mean?
hello everybody, happy chinese.new year.welcome to round table coming to you from beijing.i'm her young.
joined by huang shan and neila,it is always to have you join us.we have some fascinating topics for discussions today and every day on a day's program.it's age of factors that differentiate.
random identified the way we celebrate the chinese new year holiday and the chinese zodiac sign shows that were in the year of the ox.
what's the cultural significance of zodiac signs in the twenty first century, you can find it on apple podcast at round table china, subscribe brand review.
if you like us to tell a friend about it,but first on today's,from table.
for the twenty twenty one spring festival, staying put has become many people's choice to fend off the spread of covid nineteen from travel to their ancestral homes, while others choose not to.
the new year's atmosphere will not be diluted as strong bond between family members cannot be weakened by distance.but is there a difference when it comes to.
the way we celebrate the chinese new year holiday, according to the different generations of family members that we belong to.so let's take a look at what's going on.now, what do you think.
as the situation does age become a deciding factor, well i think it could be in terms of how we shop for the chinese new year because chinese new year is always a season when we can.
reunite with our family members and our relatives.but this year, many of us may celebrate the holiday in a slightly different way,as we are encouraged tuesday, where we are,we work.
during the holiday and for a pandemic prevention and control, and we have seen that before the spring festival,we usually like to purchase some.
commodities,or some products.and for our relatives or our parents,in order to show our gratitude.and this year, from the big data from a gedcom,a set that.
they had to pre chinese new year shopping spray, started from maybe january, and continue to nowadays.and it seems like many people.
especially those young people, they place, order in one city and then asked them to deliver the products to another city.so.
it's predicted that they are purchasing the products from where they are,and you see as a gift.for there are probably relatives or parents.and as the spring festival gifts.
um well what do you think neila, you did ask if age does matter in terms of how people celebrate,in all, how, how age impacts how people celebrates, you know.
holidays like chinese, new, yeah,i do think it it,it definitely does.i mean,i think there are some components that will determine how one wants to celebrate their.
get a holiday,so usually of course everybody, usually the first thing you think about is spending time with family.and i remember,i think when you're younger, you don't really have a lot of old would say extra cash at your.
disposal to do whatever you want.so at that point you just focus on only those celebrating and being with family.but i think when people get into that age where.
you have some some some money to utter, disposes them.extra passion, you can choose to your splash and treat yourself, and two,two family.
um you can even treat your family as far as if you know those days.prepare demic, when people would say,you know what?i'd love to take my family on a holiday and celebrate together in a different location.
so i do think age does matter, because with age determines with a,if you have a job, then you can afford to.you know, you have more options on how to celebrate, but if you don't.
oh,is still young then.the only option is for you to head home and be with your family and friends and neighbors.
yeah, good point, right there.actually, this year we're seeing that those who were born in the particularly the late nineteen nineties or.
you may say that these are people who belong to the generation z age cohort, and there becoming a growing consumption.
course, when it comes to shopping in general, and they're buying new year's goods to send them to family members, just does function.has mentioned earlier.
and what i find to be cut a sweet is it's not a one way street.when it comes to the love bond between you and family members.
his parents sometimes are worrying that if their kids grown up kids are celebrating the new year's properly.
do they get a taste of home?and they would go to great lengths to make that happen.i remember in the previous years, especially.
has when we approached the end of the national holiday week in october, when sometimes those who drove to their ancestral homes.
to visit family, come back to the city that they live in and their car trunk would be packed with goods.
that's a parents made for them.for example,preserved sausage,more like.
the leg of a pig that's been preserved, and you can just slice parts of it and put it in soup, which is a great delicacy, and can go on forever.it felt.
so anyhow, these, these, these tasty ingredients or goods that family and parents prepared for you,and then you d be able to take them.
back in the car to the city you live in.and this year, well, that's not happening in the swarms as that used to.so basically.
parents are also sending these goods through delivery, express delivery services to the cities where their children are living.at.
so it's really sweet to see that.
although the good that has been purchased and friend are different, but both parties are very concerned for each other,i'm really glad to know that this doesn't only have an inch and it cause it's just.
really,i remember when i was still back in kenya.occasionally, they also, like on christmas day,all the working, and my mother,or my aunt, would literally send cooked food from.
five thousand kilometers away, they were, they would prepare the meal and then put it on a night bus that arrives in the city in the morning.so while on my way to work,i can stop by the.
but the b a bus station, bus stop or something, the bus station, and collect my cat food.and, and you know, sometimes there would send even, like.
you know, chicken, that was like slaughter than the day before.and then they just pre plucked dates in and,and sort of,you know, made it ready for you to just, you know, put it over and start cooking.and.
and it,it's a lovely gesture.you know,it's not.sometimes,it's sometimes they might sense ridiculous things like corn, and i'm like corn from the supermarket, and they will go back.yeah, but this is from.
from from from from here, from nairobi, but it's really,it's really nice, you know,it makes you feel like your family really appreciates you.
and i'm,i'm actually really happy to see that this also happens right here in china, right?and also the corn that's grown from the fields or your family garden.yeah.
it's like home,a little piece of has a different flavor to it,for sure.and so,well, you know, aside from the food.
food and was delicious.and what it reminds you of home, what else are people doing,i suppose,to celebrate the chinese new year and.
maybe age has some kind of influence here.well,i think they are trying to buy some practical household appliances, trying to free themselves from the.
the housework, and also,i think they are booking new year's eve meals because this year, probably we will celebrate the chinese new year.
in a very small sized family,or just with our friends.so not many people, there are not very good at cooking.and in this way, instead of enjoying the.
big new year eve feast prepared by their parents.probably this year they have to rely on themselves, and, but they still want to enjoy a very wretch.
chinese new year eve.so this year, many restaurants and online platforms, they all offer the option that they, you they can provide you with a pre cooked meals.
i only need to do,i just put them in advance.and these precooked meal packages will be delivered to your door step ahead of the chinese new year eve.and i think.
nowadays, right, and recently i've been trying to select presents for my parents.and also.
my parents in law and i found is very interesting.now people are so creative in terms of giving present, because i was thinking, what should i give them?and then i buy a.
you know, ultraviolet rays, sterilizing tray, which looks just like a make up box or just jewelry box.and you can put your small things in there, and they can help you sterilize it.
is very useful.and now i found a lot,a lot of design masks,face masks and online.they collaborated.it was,for example,the summer palace.
and some other really famous,a cultural brands, and to create such beautiful face masks, and to make you look good, even with a mask on,some people are so creative nowadays.so i wish somebody could come up.
you know, come a little bit more creative with the hazmat suits.
we are being crazy with mass, but has much is a really being left behind.i would love to get a few, but.
i see this every time.i think, you know with you, worry, then you're walking on the street.and, you know, people might run away from you.
so would you rather wear?but the thing is,we don't really want, where are those suits unless we absolutely have to.yeah, for for travelling.i mean, obviously when you're travelling in the future then it,this is something you really need to consider us.
you know,as part of your or travelling kits,if you're going into crowded places, particularly if you are headed to like really high risk areas, you want a,you know yourself with the hazmat suit and everything else.
or maybe i'll just pick out an outfit from head to toe that i do not want to wear like any more.
i'm wearing the whole outfit, that's a good one,and burn the thing.after i reached my destination.
joking aside,well.
can i feel like all practical here for one set of sure.i mean, the the presence are great, and there's a lot of thought that goes into it,and i think someone as nice as huangshan has mentioned, she's not only.
you know, check it out the creative options.but also,i think she's spending quite a bit on it.but what about just, you know, sending out the red envelope packets?
and then these days, they come in the form of digital.and,oh,one thing i realized that this year,a lot of the brands, the well known ones, fit.
three, give out, like the digital red envelope, but literally the envelope on your,we chat that you can go to their online store and download the envelope.
there's no money in it.and then you flip in the money and send it out virtually.but when your loved one,who or whoever is receiving the red envelope will see a fancy digital.
red card or a just a design of the,for example, profile photo of the of the brand.yeah, yeah,it's just the digital envelope itself.there's no.
money in it,there's no gift card.but this year,i mean,that's even become a thing.so,like a very trivial thing.but,you know,people are definitely giving more thought into those,i suppose.so.
my point here actually,is quite simple and straightforward, and i think this is an.
asia's long debate about whether you send the present or actually just send the money in the red envelope, digital or other one is for the money.
find people give you gift.it's always nothing you want or things, something already, have you know, all your give you a,let's say,a gift card, and go to some place and pick something.and then it's like a limited.
no option at list of options, and then you don't know what to do it,so you just end up buying things unnecessarily on knees.so i'm always give me the money.
funny, for me i want a cash, but why give it as a present?i prefer with a you know a physical presence.
because for me,when you prepare the things, how much money you should put in an envelope.
right, especially when you give it to your parents and or your relatives, and you just feels like.
if you put too little,it's a little bit embarrassing if you put too much,it's beyond your budget.no,oh i can do is prepare a present,so i can be rich.
in creativity,in love, yeah.so this is just, you know, has a significance.and probably i can use a little very little money, but just make them really happy.because this present.
my love and my good wishes, and more practical,i think i mean with your parents.i mean, should they just accept whatever because i mean they own one hand they understand your not a billionaire.on the other hand, unless you.
really expect you to be giving them a large sum of money, because i think, like somebody like my mom would ever,i give to her.she really appreciates it because she she doesn't expect me to give her a.
and anyways,so when i do then little later she really appreciate it.and i think that that's the,that's help.a lot of people,that receivers,she'll see it because i don't.
put a price tag on,on,on gift.you know, somebody has gone to the length.they ve worked hard and and they can afford to give you a car or a hundred quiet.you should compare up to.
you know, the neighbor who has received five thousand quite from there from the just appreciate that your daughter has thought of you and you know, and and and be thankful and pray for that for them to next year, and maybe give you some more.
no,well,i i think it's the first from family to family, but a lot of the times parents.
um are stingy and spending money, especially if it's given to you by your offspring.i ve even heard these.
a stories of,let's say, this young lady has been giving her parents red pocket envelope money,or that the red.
packets every year for special occasions, special seasons or the chinese new year, that kind of thing.and every time the parents seemed to have received.
the pocket it quite happily and sure, fine, and i'm she's giving that cash to her beloved parents.but it was until, like she was getting married, and then her mom.one day.
like right before she got married at her down and just pulled out a whole bunch of cash,i would love that.and.
i've been saving this up for you.and.
you know,i'm nothing.i'm not encouraging all parents to go something so noble, but yeah,it's just a lot of the times his parents really just.
they have our best interest at heart, but i would also encourage parents just to.
treat yourselves and yeah, yeah, because i'm sure your kids, the good ones, would really appreciate that too, that you take good care of yourselves.
two,and um,i guess for the chinese new year,it's a good time to talk about giving to others.but.
um also maybe pampering yourself a little bit is is not too bad, either.what do you guys think?yeah,of course,is,finally, you can spend some time and at your wish, and you can do whatever you want.and by.
whatever you like, because it was time to treat yourself after a year's hard work, but i,i'm really not.
very excited about this year's chinese new year.i don't,i don't feel the festive atmosphere is as strong as previous years.
but i think it encouraged people to celebrate the season, the festival season,in a different way,i would say.so this year, probably.
come out,of course, with my husband and probably all just invite one or two of my friends to my home and have a very, very small gateway.
probably you just keep going to my gym and doing my yoga, and that will be my daily routine for the spring festival, because i don't know where i can go.i don't know.
how to celebrate it,to make it more entertaining.yeah, this year is a little different.it was good enough spice things up a little, got to the park and play my.
what.
outside.
yeah um,yeah i mean,i i,i catch you like,i don't really feel that spirit.and for me usually,i think for a lot of chinese people definitely will be,because you are.a lot of people are not able to sort of trouble.it's usually.
that trouble rush of people are excited about your parking things.you're buying casino.so it's kind of.
and out leading up to the chinese new year, there's a lot of excitement going on.you're looking forward to really travelling, and nothing feels good as just poking and knowing i'm going on a holiday,i'm going to spend time with my family and stuff like that.
and if you're not able to do that,it's not really exercising as much.yeah, like like you,i really don't know what i'm gonna do.i'm thinking, maybe a might go to a spa of the spa.
and then the rest of the temples, they just stay at home.and, you know, just binge watch television.
i might.
he doing that too,and also in our line of work.i'm sorry if i might have said this on a different show already, but i just can't help it right before the holiday season we have so much work to do.
double workload for everything because we need to get the season.recordings and.
a lot of stuff to gather.so basically, now, just when i think about the chinese new year holiday of.
seven days, and actually only three days, are the logic days that you get the days off the other four days.well, that includes a weekend.okay.so.
then that's two days off,and then the other two days you have to work just to make up for it.
anyhow,so just the thought of being a couch potato,or just staying in bed and told nude sounds great to me talking noon i can do.i can do four pm.
and that all just sounds like a pretty good thing to do is say,you get up,you have your breakfast in bed,you know, usually go to the kitchen.make myself a nice cup of hot ginger.
um and of course,tv as well,in front of me you know,in the bedroom.so then i turn it on,then i talk myself back, and then just, you know, sort of like, line up,everything, such as,i don't have to get up and go.
unchange, you know,so it's like one hundred episodes.i'm going to just highlights all of them and press play.and.
that's great.if i was living by myself, like, literally, like nobody else of living human being would be in the department.then i can just conduct all my business.
in bad, yeah.well,i need to go to the toilet, but everything else, you know,i'm grown into the bed like,i'm not leaving my god.
especially in winter time,we felt like a bunch of lazy slobs, and i'm sure you guys are not not as bad as no,but i'm sure have many people are going to be doing it anyways because you run out of.
ideas, you know, how many times can you go to the park, you can't go to the park every single day unless okay for running.but then for a few hours, but that's for exercising.but.
in terms of hanging out is just like you really run out of ideas.but actually, every year we used to hear the complaint that the.
older folks are doing their thing, and, and the younger folks, they're kind of on their phone all the time,or they're playing games.and in china, mobile phone games is actually more.
popular than computer games or video games, apparently.so like.
there is almost silent divide in the household when people are doing their different activities.and this year, some families will not be under the same household.
top and some will be,do you think people's sort of interpretation of what's going on might change as a regard?et,one of the advantages i can think of is that you can stay.
away from your noisy and really gossiping long distant relatives you don't want to be bothered by them, and i can just spend more quality time with.
the ones that you really care about.
probably this year we have to show our greetings to our relative through digital,in digital way, like through wechat or other chatting.
apps have this kind of digital conversation with your relatives, but yeah,i don't know,it's just so strange this year.but probably we will come up with a new ideas.to.
make it more interesting,i'm sure people,i mean,i'm sure people will be more creative.i can't wait to see,you know, memes going around and wechat, and for people, you know, being creative at their homes,to try to spice things up.
is um holidays so that that will be fantastic to see how creative families and individuals have have become during the spring festival,to make sure that.
in the make it a little bit more exciting, rather than his being in a sort of a gloomy and,you know.so yeah,i'm really looking forward to.
memes in particular,oh yeah, and the memes that comes in the form of animation, yes, that might be something that could be quite exciting.
well, this is the time of the year that even if we are maybe physically not together, but plenty of ways to reach out to your loved ones.

coming up chinese zodiac fine shows that we're in the year of the ox.what is the cultural significance of zodiac science in the twenty first century?
and trying is published a new list of nashway protected wild animals, adding hundreds of species to the catalog used for conservation purposes.
i will take a deep dive into the list and examine what new this time our podcast listeners can find us at round.
china on apple podcast, another way to get in contact with us to send us an email or a voice question to ez,as i'm around table.
foxmail old,we air your audio question first and give you a reply on the live show and now on round table.as we continue today's discussion.
now we've a fish.we entered the year of the ox,says the chinese zodiac.the ox is the second animal symbol of the cycle.coming after the.
rat.
how come that the ox loft to the flat and came in second of the zodiac cycle.
well, you might know, but i'll say it anyway.the chinese zodiac cycle consists of twelve animal signs.
these are the rat,the ox,the tiger,the rabbit,the dragon,the snake,the horse,the goat,the monkey,the rooster.
the dog and the pig,and surprisingly, the rat leads the pack.so we were piece itself every twelve.
years, and now we're officially in the year of the ox.um how come that these twelve animals sort of.
are designed this way and come in the sequence while there are a series of versions of such folk tales.but the version i like the most,is about.
the reason why we come up with this twelve animal signs was because that that was a result of a running race.so one folk tale tells us the heavenly emperor.
wanted to choose twelve animals as symbols of the zodiac cycle, and the emperor is held a competition to choose the fastest ones.
those who got to the heavenly palace first on that day would be selected.and the cat for the news and share it with his best friend, the wreck.
however, the two of them, like the two of them, decided to go together to join this competition.however, one a day calm, direct got up really early but went by himself.
i'm leaving behind his friends, adorable cats and who was still sleeping.so the red met the ox and took a free ride on his back, they were the first to arrive.
but the the cutting red jump out the back of the box and got there first, taking the first place.that's why we see the beginning of a zodiac cycle is a rat.
so the ox got second place.that's a reason why this year we are celebrating the year of the ox,but when the cat finally woke up,all twelve places have been occupied.
i'm really angry at the rest for tricking him,and that's really why.now we see cats over chasing after threat.i really like this, folks.so this is,this is really sad.this is,this is a good.
yeah,i mean it,it's kinda, you know,i just thought about,i was counting in my fingers while you were talking.and i just realize i've actually gone through all the zodiac.
signs,i mean because i,when i first came to china,my first chinese new year, was the year of the of the uh rt i think.yeah.
now, through all the cycles,um,do you feel that it might be a little bit different from year to year,or.
or you're just like me,now that i can't really,hell is this.oh right,and a new animal for this year.and then the decoration.
sort of ornaments would change a little bit,and that's pretty much it.yeah,i do.i definitely have noticed, like each year is different, depending on the zodiac.and i remember,i think.
the most memorable one was the.
year of the dragon,i couldn't stop saying pregnant women everywhere, the dragon and pig.
i was gonna say that any of the pig as well, because i am a pig.
but uh,th,there are years of literally gone past me without even noticing.i like the one we just got out of what she was that.
looks like right,yeah.okay,so,yes,yes.and then also, this is the year of the snake that totally passed me by.i mean,of course,i went to this supermarket, and every way i could see likes.
things like snakes being sold here ah just went quietly away, you know.but definitely for me,i think the you have to pay a use of the right.and i think the year of the monkey.
was a great point as well, but it definitely definitely.i would up to tell the difference, right?well, let's say if you're someone who.
your zodiac sign falls on the one that is this year.then.
i would have thought that should be like a really happy thing, but i did a little bit of investigation and realize that chinese people would be wearing like red belts.
reds, all kinds of red things.if,let's say,if my zodiac sign is ox,and now it's the year of the ox,and then i would be wearing these.a.
red items in my attire and also includes the red underwear.i was going to ask about what underwear is the most bizarre thing i've ever seen.and i got to the supermarket.it's just.
we get to the supermarket.this is just right, red underwear in your face.what is that?according to chinese traditions of this year,as the zodiac.
year and you to better to wear red color from inside to from inside and out,and usually started with the red underwear.because in chinese culture.
it seems like the red color can drive it away, all the evil spirits or a fat log,so it can protect you from oldest bad things.yeah, well,i would have thought that if is my year this year, then all the bad things.
it would just be,i should be immune to them anyway.but you are you an ox?i'm not.that's why i'm if.
also, this is a really subtle way, apparently,to,i suppose, make the educated guess of how old this person is,instead of saying, how old are you?
and then it's like,oh,what's your zodiac sign?and then you can sort of,but my math skills are so poor,i would always fail.
yes,i hear that much.i'll find out anyway.so,so for in the lens of traditional culture,as opposed,is that if.
again,if you're a knox, and this is the year of the ox,then maybe some you want to just basically send off.
any kind of risk that might come up and wearing red inside out had not encouraging you to do the full sets at one go,but you get the jest and can be something.
something of a custom you can take up,and i have to say.
ox is one of those animals that um that seems friendly,it's almost like it,it's non violent.
and it keeps its head down and does the hard work.and if you translate that into personal straight, that's quite a admirable one as well.
you think,do you think are true now?i mean,if you always you know because of you just said, you know, they, they,it's sort of laid back, and they, they keep the head down.just remind the business.
let me just being chilled out there could be like a very different kind of interpretation, according to different cultures.oh absolutely.because in china, because we've been an agrarian society for thousands of years.and.
the axis of primary and key.
three of agriculture, sorry ox's not to objectify you too much.so it's been revered and seen as very.
important to people.and.
yeah,i guess in my chinese head is almost like there, working the doctor and an important part of the whole agricultural, like traditional michael.so.
they're always hard at work.yeah, you could not make it back.you can be two, those, and also be hard working because i mean, children's is not being like lazy or anything.it's more to me.it translate to somebody who's.
who's you know who's more, have half glass and half glass full kind of person.somebody who's always saying the positive side of things, and somebody who who's not really not somebody who was more.
a bit realistic in in their way of thinking, you know.so they did not really fazed by anything or worry.they don't have anxiety, they're just rela.oh,i like to be like.
right, but i'm not,i think the ox also simplifies the prosperity and a harvest, because it teaches you,you can't always work in.
a low profile, but as long as you work really hard that you can embrace and enjoy a harvest wrong by your efforts at the other influence of,from probably the stock market.
you know, the ball and ox eye, they represent a very good market.and why you have this golden ox or golden bowl.
image,it just translate into prosperity.so for me,i think the hawks here is a very good ear.rice,i hope it is a good year, and maybe there is something shared between cultures, actually.
you know,right in front of,you know,when.
i browse the bronze floor statue.yeah,yeah.so.
hope it's a good year,fingers crossed,when it comes to financial markets.and another interesting,i suppose,sentiment,possibly brought by the ox,is.
i just think it's cute, like every year in the recent decade,i suppose.like when you.
c d z designer brands,or just a pile brands like they try to come up with something.
special for that zodiac year.i mean,it just gives, the merchants are reason to roll out more merchandise.and possibly,we would be interested.
to buy it,oh,it's just like it was christmas special edition for some, some of the western countries.i mean,if you have a.
festive christmas special, especially designed item.then maybe people will be interested to buy it,and that's your.
just like every other year,we see the zodiac animals play a special role at this time of the year.and.
we've made fun of these designer houses or brands before, and sometimes not really getting what is.
um attractive to the chinese consumer but how are they doing this here with their special designs of dogs?yeah, this year a british friend,we won't name it and like it comes up with a design with the.
ox horn baseball cap, which is really interesting because it put the 10is signature attend design on this hat and but in the shape of a an ox horn.
and the other one i can think of is another brand italian brand.they have a collaboration with the beloved japanese cartoon figure, jamel.
mhm yeah but that's okay.yeah.
say they put a golden cow or ox outfits around the cast,if you help and it counts as the oaxaca specialties.
while they they trying to dress him up in the golden ox outfits, right?super cute.yeah.so like earlier in our discussion we did mention that the cat didn't make it to the race.
on the twelve zodiac,animals.
but in this way,it can possibly participate.yeah ella, are you drawn to any other?what do you call it zodiac hype at all?
not really,but um i mean,no,no.
i want a realist, you know,i i,it's nice to have these kinds of things because, you know,it keeps your mind into a busy and challenging.and this stuff.
whether it's chinese zodiac signs or the western zodiac signs,i told you know,i don't really pay much attention.i know, for example,i'm a leo,and i know i was born in the year of the pig.and the.
where it just ends,i don't know much about about that, but people, some people tend to believe in this stuff like it's really serious.yeah, well,do you ever read the horoscope like monthly thing?and.
then, compared to what actually goes on in life and see if it's accurate at all,i don't.i do read sometimes i don't make it.
as something that i do often is usually, when you know, when you wake up in the morning and you've had a really vivid dream, and then you want to know what this dream means.so you go and google.
like i dreaming about being in love.for example, they explain to you,and then right below it.and this.
in a horoscope is going to pull up,and you,and you're then you just end up reading it anyways.but i don't really go out there seeking it.the only thing i got sitting out is twist.
quite interpret my dreams, particularly when they are very vivid.right?what about you hongshan you into the horoscopes or the zodiac signs?
for me,i would turn to those kind of things when i'm in i mean a lot of uncertainties.or this time i've just lack of hope, but then i'll turn to the things for the emotional support.
i want to,i'm very secure in my life.i just don't believe this kind of things.this year,my mom is her zodiac,is she?yeah, she was born in the year of the.
so i'm looking for prices for her,but i will steal, you know, believe in such auspicious significance.i probably will buy something with red for her,and i check some jewelry brands.i found out the old puts.
rubies, this kind of rat and colored chance,i rubies or not.and in the design of their jury,so well, you still want a rat in the chinese new year season.
yeah, and and speaking of that, you just tell your mother is and all.i am a big,and i just saw.i read somewhere that we would not be compatible.
no,i heard like is the worst, some don't work out the kind that they cannot like.
it won't work out well according to the traditions,it's it depends on you.yeah,i don't believe in or not.yeah,it really depends.
and i would have thought that a cow and the sheep.
i did some reading and they said the best matches for a ox,rabbit, sheep and tiger, sheep and tiger.
what a tiger, get along with.anybody want to eat everybody?yes, how did they say the pig and the tiger have different characteristics, but if they decide to use them to complement each other, they will have a relationship filled with.
fashion, assuming it's the ox who has to laugh at all the jokes from the tiger and then things will work out.
what about the dragon you know,in traditional chinese culture is usually the emperors.the only one that's allowed to be associated with dragon.
the dragon print on his gown kind of thing.so.
i'm just really curious who or which animals should be best to be paired up with the dragon?
you know, this makes any sense.we need a year of phenix.make them a couple.yeah,i think this is why, like i've met people who actually believe in this stuff.
and like you go on a date and they really dig ging deeper into which year you were born, what your horoscopes.and i'm like what this got to do with then?he,yeah.
ah,and it,it's quite interesting.i really don't know.i would love to know about if the compatibility between an oxide drug on ballet,or probably gone.google that after this.
yeah, well,i suppose for all of you out there who is an ox,i wish you a very auspicious year.and.
and where the red,if you feel that is what you want to do.and for everybody else there,i guess, just eat up,drink up,have a.
wonderful time.
and i hope you are having a beautiful day, listening to round table, coming up next to china.recently revised its protected wild animal list used for conservation purposes.will get into.
the details of that right after this break.
looking for passion, how about fiery debate?want to hear about current events in china from different perspectives than tune in to round it.
meets west and understand it is the goal.
you are listening to round table with myself.who a young.
i've got huang shen and neila joining me in the studio after thirty years, more than five hundred new species have been added to the catalog that defines.
protection levels for wild animals, people, there are very significant in the protection of animals.so let's take a look at the detailed revision.
yeah, the new list has upgraded the protection level for sixty five species, including the draw, which is a red colored wild dog,and my favorite yangtze river, phyllis.
and they are endangered and critically endangered, respectively, from second to the first class.and at the same time, the protection level for the assam.
macaque alvin ibex and their burmese python have been downgraded due to their stable populations, and a wide geographic distribution.so i think this is a positive news for.
many conservationists and a lot of animal lovers, because the protection low state need to be updated every five years.and in recent update.
mechanism, and to guarantee the accuracy of the protection level,i would say,and it's definitely a good thing that arouse the public awareness of protecting such animals, and can remind us.
of such animals are critical, dangerous situation.like my favorite phyllis porpoise.because, according to the cigar release,in twenty eighteen.
it's population was just one thousand and twelve fewer than the giant panda.if you're familiar with those corpus, you will know is in small size and very cute with a smiling face.
if negative, much loved in china and beyond because is a adorable, you have no reason to not protecting air.and also it needs a very clean environment for it to survive.yeah, because it's also an indicator.
of the ecosystem of its habitat, which is the yangtze river,so if dear population keep growing it means we are enjoying a healthier.
you know, yang's reefer.i think it's important that, you know,i think a lot of people do know cause this is a message that has been drilled and people's heads for for a long time since people started talking about conservation.
environment, what i think,i,i think it's it's good at the chinese government, the chinese authorities and the rest of the world.and now, recognizing that we need to do a lot of conservation, particularly for animals.
we also need to start teaching children in school from one day young.the importance of having.
all these kinds of spoke sorts of species around, because if one species gets distinct for extinct central example, then that means.
the imbalance in the ecosystem is,is not there any more,so i think we need to start educating children when they are still young in school as they grow up,so that they know when they grow up.
i need to play my part to make sure i'm not involved in activities that might end up below, but participating in,and contributing in having an extinction of a certain species.
so i think awareness is there, but i think education ask, because a lot of people know why.i mean,we're supposed to do this, but a lot of people don't know why.
and the why is what it needs to be,start this need to start teaching the why in school.yes, that is a very good point.and when you look at the.
timing that the revisions are being discussed.i think it's kind of interesting cause the last time when there was a major.
sort of revamp of the list was thirty years ago,and it was well, actually the china.
china's wildlife protection law, which was last revised in twenty eighteen,it's stipulated that the protection list should be up dated every 5.
years.
and.
that is something that we still need to see.a you know is is followed through like every five years.and with this more frequent update, possibly a world.
um.
keep people on their toes a little bit more.but that's also a premise that a list like this could have.
the bite that it needs for for it to have the impact and deter the.
v actions that we don't want to see,so i feel like it should be made customary or mandatory for every individual person around the world to watch a certain amount of animal documents.
because then when you watch it,and you emotionally get a touch, you know,it's it's a world that you demystify on.sometimes,if we,if we haven't demystified something,it just becomes a bit.
strange, and we become really, really emotionally detached, but i feel like when you have access and you can learn about us,a certain species, you can learn about an animal.
and you,and you hear their stories, and how the bring beautiful balance into the environment.then,as a human being, you know, you will get touched, and you want to be,obviously.
you want to protect this particular species.and so i think people should just be married to watch slows and lows of documentaries once a year.i think that's a really good point in the sense that, for example,in kenya, which is.
country that it is,we all know,is rich with natural resources and such beautiful animals of so many different species.
and i think if there's some sort of connection or this closeness that people residents.
naturally, have,or you grow up with.and then that might help.but yeah,i mean,it just reminds me,just last year there was like a huge debt and tweet down on social media about this huge.
a highway that's being know that passes through the national park in europe.and people were really angry, like,or you're,you know, you're going to affect the the,the animals there.and it,because people are already attached to it.and they grew up with it.and they know this is part of.
society, and yeah,so yeah, you mentioned that the yangtze river films for purpose.
but that's something that you feel very passionate.yes,it's very attached to its protection, but there are some animals and species out there that are not cute that don't have to seemingly smiley face.
yeah,i think it's also those less recognized species and animals might find it a little bit harder to get the kind of attention that maybe they need.and they could be on the danger that i'm always wondering about.
snakes,to go away.
yeah,i need to keep.
keep the balance of the ecosystem,so every animal is is meaningful.i think we could do with minus snakes.and i,for one, actually.
um like amphibians together, and hyphens, serpents, snakes.yeah,i,i quite like them.
i wouldn't like keep them in the house, but i am very happy that there are parts of.
big circle of life.
and that's set for today's roundtable.thank you so much for spending time with us.
