New E-Bike Registration - What You Need to Know

2021-02-15 Tianjin Go Expats

The announcement is for Chinese ID holders in Tianjin. It is not mandatory, but is suggested and free of charge to have your E-bike registered with your local police station.

This is meant for having better tracking and statistics on bikes and will greatly help in reclaiming stolen e-bikes.

Bikes being registered must have been 100% legally bought and owned. Proper documents of ownership are required for registration (VAT Invoice, aka fapiao, 發票). Be careful at your registration application - upgraded, modified, tuned e-bikes have the chance of getting confiscated.

To clarify, this registration is open and meant only for Chinese ID card owners in Tianjin.

However, this does open the possibilty to have a friend or significant other that is a Chinese Tianjin resident to register on your behalf for extra security and tracking  of your E-bike (in case it's lost/stole)
