Authorities in Jingbian County, Shaanxi Province, north-western China, were called to the scene after receiving a report from the paralysed woman’s concerned daughter-in-law. Officers can be seen lifting the 79-year-old victim who is covered in mud and still breathing.

Her 57-year-old son, known by his surname Ma, remains in custody and is facing an attempted murder charge. Investigators say he put his bedridden mother in a push cart and wheeled her away from their family home at around 8pm on May 2 before returning in the early hours of the following morning.
而她57歲的兒子目前被拘留，面臨謀殺未遂的指控。據調查者所言，就在5月2日晚上8點左右，他將臥床不起的老母親搬到手推車上，將她推出了家，並於次日凌晨歸來。
When his wife Ms Zhang asked about his mum’s whereabouts, Ma reportedly said he had hired a van driver to take her to see relatives. She became suspicious and eventually filed a missing person report for her mother-in-law, known by her surname Wang.
據說在他的妻子張女士詢問母親下落時，這名馬姓男子表示他僱傭了一個貨車司機帶母親前往看望親戚。他的妻子半信半疑，並最後將這位婆婆（王女士）作為失蹤人口報案。
Authorities say Ma was summonsed to the police station where he owned up to burying his mum in a deserted tomb south of Jingbian County. Police officers located the site and surprisingly found Ms Wang crying for help after enduring nearly three days without food or water.
據有關部門表示，馬某隨即被傳喚至派出所，他供認是自己將母親活埋在靖邊縣南部的一個廢棄墳墓之中。隨後警方找到了案發地點，並意外地聽到王女士哭喊呼救的聲音，她此時已經將近三天無水無糧。
She remains in hospital but is not in any life-threatening condition, local authorities said. Director of the Jingbian County Public Security Bureau Yang said: 「The details of the case itself aren’t complicated. What’s hard to fathom is the suspect’s apparent loss of humanity. His violation of morals and ethics are unacceptable.」
據當地官方表示，該母親目前仍在醫院，已經脫離生命危險。靖邊縣公安局楊局長表示：「這起案件本身並不複雜。難以理解的是犯罪嫌疑人竟然如此喪盡天良，這種違背道德和倫理的事情天理難容。」
Medical workers from Jingbian's hospital of traditional Chinese medicine told the Beijing News that the woman, who was rescued by police, was delirious upon admission but did not lose consciousness.
靖邊中醫院的醫護人員則對「新京報」表示，該母親被警方救出之後，入院時依然神志不清，但並沒有完全喪失知覺。
Wang started living with the suspect last year. According to Beijing News, Ma told the police he felt psychological pressure because his mother was unable to take care of herself and was often incontinent, but now he regrets what he did.
王女士（母親）是從去年開始與犯罪嫌疑人生活在一起。據「新京報」報導，馬某向警方供述他自己深感心理壓力，因為自己沒有照顧母親的能力，而且母親經常大小便失禁，現在他已經深感後悔。
According to the criminal law, Ma could be sentenced to more than 10 years in prison, said Zhu, a lawyer with Beijing Century Law Firm branch in Dalian, Liaoning province. In this case, his behavior constitutes attempted homicide under the law.
北京世紀律師事務所遼寧大連分所的朱律師表示，根據刑法的相關規定，馬某將被判處10年以上有期徒刑。而在本案中，他的行為已經構成法律上的故意殺人罪。
「Since China's criminal law does not recognize euthanasia, even if there is a situation in which the mother asked him to help her die, Ma's crime meets the standard of attempted homicide, but the punishment can be appropriately reduced," he said.
考慮到中國刑法並不承認安樂死，所以即便是母親要求他幫助殺死自己，馬某的罪行仍然構成故意殺人罪，只不過刑法會適當減少…」朱律師如是說道。
The case led to rampant discussion on social media. "The son buried the mother alive and the daughter-in-law saved her. I'm really confused, who is the real one she gave birth to?" one netizen wrote on Sina Weibo.
這起案件在社交媒體上引發了激烈爭論。「兒子把親生母親給活埋了，卻被兒媳給救了，我真的很困惑，到底誰才是她親生的？」一名微博用戶如是寫道。
案情詳細回顧
嫌疑人馬某寬將其母從家中帶走後，曾對妻子謊稱將母親送至親戚家。「5月2日20時許，嫌疑人馬某寬把母親用人力車拉走後，5月3日凌晨2時許，回到家中告訴妻子張某梅說自己將母親送到靖邊縣新車站，僱傭了一輛麵包車送往甘肅省慶城縣親戚家中。」
當家人趕至車站尋找老人未果時，嫌疑人馬某寬離開家人的視線，獨自一人出走失聯，這無疑拖延了營救老人的寶貴時間。幸而接警後，新莊派出所民警立即安排警力對馬某寬和王某芳進行尋找，同時到靖邊縣公安局指揮中心調取相關監控，查找馬某寬和王某芳的活動軌跡等線索。
直到接近3天後，嫌疑人馬某寬被民警找到進行詢問時，仍然堅稱將母親送至親戚家。經民警進一步調查發現王某芳未到慶城縣的親戚家中。後民警將馬某寬帶回所內進一步進行調查，在詢問期間馬某寬言辭閃爍，神色慌張，回答問題前後矛盾，辦案民警發現馬某寬有重大隱情。
在民警強大的思想攻勢下，馬某寬才最終交代：2020年5月2日20時許，自己將母親王某芳用人力車拉到靖邊縣萬畝林某處，見四處無人後，就找了一個廢棄墓坑將母親王某芳倒進去用土埋了。警方了解這一情況後高度重視，立即趕到現場對被埋者王某芳展開救援工作。
根據當地警方表示，老人本是靖邊人，但第二任丈夫是甘肅的，戶籍遷過去了，後來又回靖邊居住。涉事嫌疑人是老人的大兒子，此前老人和二兒子居住，但二兒子去年生病無力照顧，轉由大兒子照顧。平時在縣城打工的大兒子嫌棄照顧老人，則心生歹念，將老人活埋，隨後兒媳婦回家不見老人蹤跡便報警。
