While most of the 2020 electionsmedia coverage in the U.S. is focused on national politics and the U.S.presidential race, it is often local government elections that have thegreatest impact on the day-to-day lives of most Americans. Local policies andlocal officials such as mayors, city councilors, and school board membersdetermine everything from teacher salaries at public schools and construction ofaffordable housing, to public transportation and public health measures inone’s city.
The U.S. Consulate Guangzhou willhold a panel discussion on October 22nd to highlight local ballotinitiatives across different states and explore the power each American hasthrough the voting process. Each panelist will speak about their ownexperiences with a local initiative, and questions and comments from theaudience are welcome throughout the event. Join us for a rare inside look intolocal politics in the U.S.!

Our Lincoln Hall hasstate-of-the-art air filtration systems, specifically designed to prevent thespread of germs and viruses in the building; strict sanitary measures will betaken at the venue; the number of participants will be limited to 188 people,which is 75% of the capacity of our venue (approximately 250 seats), and theseats will be kept at a distance of 1 meters; We encourage attendees to wear masksto participate; hand sanitizer will be provided.
