對於「冷空氣」的翻譯，可能很多人第一反應是「cold air」，Yee君告訴你，事情並沒有那麼簡單。
因為英語中的cold air跟氣象可沒有半毛錢關係，它通常是指「冷風、冷氣」。具體點來說，指的是空調吹的冷氣或者說是冬天冰冷的空氣，所以它並非一種氣象現象。
但是「冷氣團」可以用「cold air mass」來表示。
氣象名詞「冷空氣」的正確翻譯是「cold front」，也有「寒潮、冷鋒」的意思。與之對應的是warm front，表示暖鋒、熱流。
front這個詞，不僅有「前部、正面」的意思，它還有「前線、陣線」以及動詞「面對，朝向，對抗」的詞義，所以它還是專門的氣象用語，指冷暖空氣的交鋒，表達這種對抗的狀態。
