China Is Quietly Setting Global Standards
中國正悄悄的設立全球標準
High-level trade talks last week between the U.S. and China grabbed headlines around the world, but in many ways they were beside the point. In the years ahead, tariffs and industrial policy -- the main focus of the talks -- will probably matter less in the growing competition between the two countries, while another, much quieter initiative will matter more. As China boosts overseas investment through its Belt and Road infrastructure program, it is increasingly dictating not just the terms of financing but also a broader set of technological applications. In doing so, it is altering the global competitive landscape by defining and exporting technical standards for everything from artificial intelligence to hydropower.
上周中美之間高級別的貿易談判吸引了全球目光，但其實這沒有那麼重要。在未來的歲月裡，關稅和產業政策——此次會談的焦點——在越發競爭的兩國關係裡將變得不那麼重要了，而另外一個不那麼喧囂的因素將扮演更加重要的角色。隨著中國通過一帶一路計劃加強在海外的投資，中國不僅在融資上越發主宰，而且在更廣泛的技術應用層面上也越發佔據主導地位。如此一來，中國改變了全球競爭圖景，定義並出口技術標準，範圍從人工智慧到水電等等不一而足。

Sure...because they're not blowing all their money on "freedom fighters" "regime changes" and threatening everyone by driving their military all over the world to point guns at everyone's heads. Imagine how much money WE could put into these projects if we weren't so busy funding radical islam (known in "newspeak" as "freedom fighters").
