he Changzhou Giants, a rugby team of players consisting predominantly of the WAIS Common Room (and the coaches of many of the Wycombe Abbey boys who currently play rugby at the school), flew to Hong Kong at the start of April to compete for the second consecutive year at the Kowloon RugbyFest, an internationally renowned tournament. The Giants, who earlier in the year qualified for the National Grand Finals in Shanghai in June, played teams from Finland, China, America and the UK in their group.
Playing some phenomenal rugby all day, the Giants ended up winning four out of five group games, topping their group, and going into the Cup Quarter Finals. After a long day playing in the hot and humid conditions of Hong Kong, the Giants unfortunately came up against a very well drilled side from Australia who eventually came through as winners.
Everyone involved had a fantastic day at the tournament, and capped it off at the weekend by going to watch one of the world’s premier sporting events, the Hong Kong 7s.
The Giants have home and away fixtures coming up over the next couple of months before their big end of season finale in Shanghai on 16th June.
