最近有同學問我， Essay和Report的區別在哪裡？ 相對於report的寫作格式， e ssay的structure是更為人所熟悉的，其實二者相差不大，主要通過一些小的方面將二者加以區分。
u Essay的結構主要由這三個部分組成：introduction，main body 和conclusion。
Introduction通常包括： topic，relevant background/context of the issue in question, brief description of the following sections, thesis statement。
Main body的內容：topic sentence, arguments, evidence, analysis based on critical thinking。
Conclusion的作用：to summarize what has been discussed in the part of main body and make a reflection about the issue concerned.
u Report 也有以上三個部分（introduction，main body 和conclusion），但是report一般都要求有executive summary 和 recommendations。 除非老師另外有規定，寫這幾個部分就可以成為一篇結構完整的report。
Executive summary: 執行摘要為讀者提供報告的主要目的，即分析流程，調查結果和建議。它之所以被稱為摘要是因為讀者可能沒有足夠的時間閱讀完整的報告，但需要提取足夠的信息以做出明智的決定。執行摘要應該鼓勵讀者繼續閱讀完整的報告。它也可以作為一個在未來的某個階段快速參考報告的簡要介紹。以下是對它的英文介紹。
Executive summary的字數和整個正文的字數有一定的比例關係，下面是一個國外老師要給出的版本，僅供參考。
Recommendations: 簡單點說，對文章所討論的問題提出有針對性的建議。recommendations可以一條條標號列出，但必須全是full sentences，不可以用bullet points的形式。下面是對recommendations的英文介紹以輔助理解。
