(1) Dash 破折號
也叫em dash，與之相對的是 en dash，它用於表示數字的範圍，如1989 - 2015、$100 - $200。在字符長度上，em dash > en dash > hyphen。
Dashes separate parts of a sentence, a little like parentheses or a semicolon.
破折號用於把句子分成幾部分，有點兒像括號和分號。
A dash is longer than a hyphen.
破折號比連字符長。
I'll wash the dishes – Jan forgot to do them yesterday.
我去洗盤子——簡昨天忘了洗了。
(2) Hyphen 連字符
A hyphen is used between parts of a compound word or name (more often as adjectives than nouns).
連字符用在複合詞或名字中間（更多時候作為形容詞而不是名詞）。
It is also used to split a word by syllables to fit it on a line of text.
它也被用來根據音節拆分單詞，從而換行。
The sixteen-year-old girl is a full-time student.
這個十六歲的女孩是位全日制學生。
