Challah is a Jewish leavened and plaited bread that is consumed on Sabbath (day of rest) and other Jewish festivals. It is normally made with eggs, containing neither dairy nor meat. A Challah is usually woven with 6 rope-shaped dough. Bread with 12 strands are also popular because it represents 12 tribes of Israel. In a traditional Sabbath or festival meal, two loaves of bread will be covered with a Challah cover during the blessing of wine. It will be followed by the blessing over bread and the starting of the meal.
