劍橋雨中萬人為霍金送行, Everything Has Its Time

3月的最後一天，英國劍橋的市民們雨中為霍金送行。

這位理論物理學家在尋找宇宙的答案時，也接受了生命的深度和複雜性。

近500名霍金的親友和同事在下午2點聚集在聖瑪麗大教堂（Great St Mary's Church）為他送行，就在霍金多年來擔任劍橋大學研究主任的那條路上。劍橋當天的氣溫十分寒冷，還下著小雨，但道路兩旁早已擠滿了來自世界各地的上萬名民眾。

在霍金生前所在的劍橋大學岡維爾與凱斯學院（Gonville and Caius College），人們自發在門口留下鮮花以紀念。霍金在這裡從事教學和科研52年，學院目前還保留著霍金生前的辦公室。

下午2點，霍金的靈柩抵達劍橋大學聖瑪麗大教堂，教堂鳴鐘76次，以悼念霍金享年76歲。

霍金的靈柩靈柩上放有白色的百合和玫瑰，分別象徵著宇宙和北極星。

英國男演員Eddie Redmayne，曾在2014年主演關於霍金的傳記電影《The Theory of Everything萬物理論》，並獲得奧斯卡獎，他在霍金葬禮上致詞。霍金的一位學生和長子也分別在葬禮上致詞。葬禮是為霍金的親友和同事舉辦的私人儀式，不對外開放。

今年晚些時候，Westminster Abbey大教堂將在感恩節舉行紀念霍金的隆重儀式，將他的骨灰安放在大教堂，就在牛頓爵士的墳墓附近。

霍金的家人說，這個城市是霍金深愛的：


"He was an integral and highly recognizable part of the university and the city,"  "For this reason, we have decided to hold his funeral in the city that he loved so much and which loved him. Our father’s life and work meant many things to many people, both religious and non-religious. So, the service will be both inclusive and traditional, reflecting the breadth and diversity of his life."
