在高中英語中，related和relevant是一對出鏡率頗高的近義詞。很多朋友分不清楚它們之間的區別，今天，我們就來分析一下它們之間的區別。
一、related有兩個種意思
1、與某人或某物有關的，相聯繫的。這種用法表示兩人或兩物之存在關係。
Crime is closely related to unemployment.犯罪和失業是緊密聯繫在一起的。
Smoking is related to many diseases.抽菸和很多疾病有關係。
Tom hates it when you say that everything is related to money.湯姆討厭你說一切都和金錢有關。
2、屬於同一家族或種類。表示兩人或物都可以劃分為某一種類，或家族。
The two are related species of dog.這兩種是有親緣關係的兩種狗。
All the ants in the colony are genetically related.同一窩裡的螞蟻都有親緣關係。
He claims to be distantly related to one great emperor in China history.他聲稱自己和中國歷史上的一個偉大皇帝有親緣關係。
二、relevant有關的，切題的
這是一個形容詞，英文解釋為：～to sb/sth, connected with what is being discussed, what is happening, what is being done.
The new secretary had all the relevant documents ready before the meeting.新秘書在開會之前就把所有相關的文件準備好了。
What Tom said in the meeting was completely not relevant.湯姆在會議上說的話和主題完全沒關係。
綜上所述，related表示二者之間有聯繫，有關係或屬於同一個種類。relevant是指某人或某物與某一主題相關或切題。
