每日一句英譯英：Let bygones be bygones

我們基本都是帶著學英語是「為了用」，甚至是「馬上可以用」這個太過於「功利」的心理預期學習英語，其結果只能是：除了滿腦子強大的「中文思維」外，一年四季也沒幾次把所學的英語好好用一用的機會。這就是用中文學英語的弊端：用中文學英語留下的只有「滿地中文雞毛」。

學英語不是為了用的，是為了訓練用英語學英語，用英語記英語的。

比如：Let bygones be bygones，你只會問「中文是什麼？」嗎？

我們學生多年英語，應該會問：What does it mean if you say Let bygones be bygones?

1) 信息輸入：What does it mean after all?

1. He said he was sorry: can't we let bygones be bygones?

Come on. That was a long time ago. Why not just let bygones be bygones?

2) Meaning：融會貫通，能做到下面同一個意思不同用詞嗎？

1. Bygones means Something that happened in the past=long long ago=a long time ago.

2. Let bygones be bygones means To agree to forget past quarrels=disagreement.

3. Let bygones be bygones means What's done is done,or don't worry about the past any more.

4. If you say Let bygones be bygones,you mean Forgive and forget.

3) 信息輸出：Okay.I got you.

1. Okay.I got you.If we say Let bygones be bygones,we mean/what we mean is/it means Forgive and forget.

2.So,If we say He said he was sorry: can't we let bygones be bygones,we can also say He said he was sorry: can we forgive and forget,can we agree to forget our past quarrels=disagreement,What's done is done,can we not worry about the past any more?

學英語不是為了用的，學英語是為了學會用英語學英語，用英語記英語的。就像我一樣，「見」英語能「說」英語。這才是最實在最實惠的。十年八年有這點收穫，足矣！管它有沒有機會跟人「說」英語。

冰釋前嫌？過去的就讓它過去？過去的事就讓一陣風吹過去算了？

這就訓練「英譯漢」，不叫「英譯英」，是另外一個訓練科目。中文想得太多，你就永遠只記得中文了。
