During Chinese New Year, billions of people move across China. It is a very important tradition for Chinese people to go back to their hometowns and get together with the family before New Year’s Eve.
People travel by trains, planes, cars and even motor bikes! Towards the Chinese New Year, the traffic in Beijing is unbelievably busy. Sometimes a driver can just move 6-7 kilometers in one hour. There are millions of flights getting in and out of the airport every day and also billions of people taking trains. It is very common for some people to spend more than 30 hours on the train, and this is because most workers only have one holiday and they really want to spend this holiday with their families.
Every year, there is a motor bike army, who ride motor bikes to get home because it is too expensive to take a plane or train. People ride for 100 kilometers or more in one day. They wake up at 5 am to start their journey.
In the northern city of China, Harbin, the temperature can be as low as -30 degrees. Even though it is so cold some people dare to swim out-side! The temperature of the water in the ice pool is one degree, so the water can be frozen at any time. Ice swimming outdoors seems to be very popular amongst the 70 years old retired people!
In Harbin, people celebrate Chinese New Year at the ice festival. The builders build an ice city just with ice! The ice city takes one year to build but it can last for only three months. Cool!
In Zhang Jia Ko they celebrate Chinese New Year by practicing a tradition called Da Shu Hua , Da Shu Hua is to split molten iron in the air, it’s a little bit dangerous but also fascinating and fun to watch.
The Chinese New Year is fun!Fantastic!
