因為石塊的阻擋，羅恩和harry被迫兵分兩路，
Harry獨自一人進了密室。
入眼的是壯觀的景象，中間一條石板路，沾滿水跡，旁邊大而精緻的蛇形雕塑，一個接一個地整齊排布，浸泡在水裡。
當harry一邊走一邊驚嘆於這些雕塑的恢弘之時，餘光忽然瞥見前方，正平躺在地板上的人，
「Ginny？」
Harry立馬加快腳步飛奔過去，撲倒在金妮面前，收咯的魔杖都被harry撲倒的姿勢甩到了一邊。
看著沉睡不醒的金妮，慌了神。
「wake up！Wake up！」harry不斷地祈求道。
但是金妮卻半點反應的沒有，焦急與慌亂充斥著harry的心。
「she won't wake.」一個陌生的聲音突然傳來。
Harry扭頭望去，立刻皺起了眉頭「Tom Riddle」
是的，現在朝著harry走來的人就是那個神秘的日記本主人Tom Riddle。
一個50年前存在的人，怎麼會突然出現在這裡，而且還如當年一樣青春俊秀的樣子出現。
Harry一時沒想到這些，他的全部注意力都在金妮的生死上。
「What do you mean, she won't wake?」
「She's still alive, but only just.」湯姆回答了harry的疑問。
（她還活著，但是也只是活著而已）
聽到湯姆說金妮還活著，harry鬆了一口氣。
這才問起湯姆出現在這裡的異常，「Are you a ghost?」
（ghost鬼魂）
「A memory...preserved in a diary for 50 years.」湯姆老實回答了。
（preserve動詞保存，比如自然保護區可以用這個詞，the nature preserve或者是Nature Reserve）
原來眼前的湯姆只是個保存了50年的記憶。
不愧是霍格沃茲，一個記憶都搞得那麼鮮活。
Harry低頭摸摸金妮的手，冰冷的觸感讓他一驚。
「She's cold as ice. Ginny, please don't be dead. Wake up.」
他轉頭尋求湯姆的幫助「You've got to help me, Tom. There's a basilisk（蛇怪）」
「It won't come until it's called.」湯姆淡定回答著。
Harry突然警覺起來，慢慢站起了身子，眼睛盯著面前的湯姆，應該說是湯姆手中的魔杖。
這是harry剛剛掉落在地上的屬於他的魔杖。
Harry伸出手，向湯姆討要道「Give me my wand, Tom.」
「You won't be needing it.」湯姆拒絕了他。
「We've got to go. We've got to save her.」harry激動道。
「I'm afraid I can't do that.You see, as poor Ginny grows weaker, I grow stronger」
湯姆的這句話讓harry的腦子宕機了幾秒。
金妮越虛弱，他越強？這裡面的信息量貌似有點大。
不管harry願不願意接受，湯姆給出了真相「Yes, Harry, it was Ginny Weasley who opened the Chamber of Secrets.」
「No. She couldn't. She wouldn't.」harry起了強烈的牴觸。
「It was Ginny whoset the basilisk on the Mudbloods and Filch's cat...Ginny who wrote the threatening messages on the walls.」
（強調句，it’s / was + 被強調部分+ who（當強調主語指人）+ 其他部分。這種句式是專門用來強調人的。是金妮，不是別人，放出了蛇怪攻擊他人。這句子裡有兩個Ginny who其實就是並列。）
「But why?」harry非常的疑惑，因為金妮沒有這麼做的理由。
「Because I told her to.You'll find I can be very persuasive. Not that she knew what she was doing.She was, shall we say, in a kind of trance.Still, the power of the diary began to scare her.
She tried to dispose of it in the girls' bathroom.」

「And then who should find it but you?」湯姆圍著harry轉圈打量著。
（who should…but這個結構 (用來談論意外地出現某事或碰見某人等)，該句型的who的意思是nobody.於是，這個句子就好理解了，應該沒人能找到被拋棄的日記本，但是意外被你發現了）
「The very person I was most anxious to meet.」湯姆接著說道。
（very起強調作用）
（anxious不再是焦慮的意思，而是渴望）
「And why did you want to meet me?」harry眼神犀利地質問道。
「I knew I had to talk to you, meet you if I could.So I decided to show you my capture of that brainless oaf Hagrid to gain your trust.」
（capture名詞捕獲）

原來，這就是湯姆在日記中展現他質問海格那個場景的原因，就是為了嫁禍海格，取得harry的信任。
「Hagrid's my friend.And you framed him, didn't you?」
（frame動詞陷害）
「lt was my word against Hagrid's.Only Dumbledore seemed to think he was innocent.」湯姆頗為無奈。
（我說了反對海格的話，但是鄧布利多似乎認為他是無辜的）
「I'll bet Dumbledore saw right through you.」harry無比堅信鄧布利多的睿智，肯定道。
（through是從空間中穿過，across是從表面穿過）
「He certainly kept an annoyingly close watch on me after that.I knew it wouldn't be safe to open the Chamber again while I was still at school...so I decided to leave behind a diary...preserving my 1 6-year-old self in its pages...so that one day I would be able to lead another...to finish Salazar Slytherin's noble work.」

沒想到，50年前因為鄧布利多的監視，而無法有所動作的湯姆，竟然未雨綢繆到未來，把16歲的自己封存在日記本裡，以便伺機開啟密室。
不過，有這種設定的話。巫師豈不是都死不了，大限將至的時候，把自己封進什麼日記本啦、畫框啦，不也能活著。
把跑沒邊的話題拉回來。
「Well, you haven't finished it this time.In a few hours, the Mandrake Draught will be ready.And everyone who was Petrified will be all right again.」
今年可不像五十年前，沒有人直視過蛇怪的眼睛，沒有人死亡。石化的人只要喝下成熟的曼德拉草就能恢復原狀。只要阻止了面前的這個人，一切都可以恢復原狀。Harry這樣想著，對未來的預期也是向好期盼著。
「Haven't I told you?. Killing Mudbloods doesn't matter to me anymore.For many months now, my new target has been you.」
（not...anymore不再）
You字一出口，harry愣了。他和湯姆似乎毫無交際，也無仇恨。看了他的日記算仇恨嗎？而且還是他引導harry看的。
Harry不明白。
