《Me before you》第一章的筆記來了~~
Livi這次錄製了一個講解的錄音，因為時間有限，所以是一次性錄完的。
如果有不足大家多多包涵哦。
因為是Livi初次的小小嘗試。

讀《me before you》學地道英語
讀原版小說是一件充滿挑戰的事，因為你會不斷發現自己與英語母語者的差距。
Livi記得上次看了一本書，作者說，她讀完15本原版小說後，英語水平有了極大提高，等她讀完100本的時候，她就出了這本英語學習書。
那麼既然我們都喜歡讀，就一起努力堅持下去吧。
這一期比上次多了很多生詞，大家做好心理準備哦。
如果不忙的話，你可以讀得比Livi快一點，然後看Livi的推送，作為複習。
如果你也很忙，那麼就和Livi一樣慢吞吞地讀下去吧。（其實Livi同時在讀好幾本書...Orz）
對了，和大家請個假。由於時間的問題，這個系列的文章更新會比較不定時。下一次和大家見面很可能是十二月了。之後就會更新得快一點。總之不能保證很快的更新頻率，不過這樣大家看書的壓力也小一點吧。如果看到Livi好長時間沒更新，千萬不要想「呀，Livi不讀了」，沒有哦，Livi保證會帶大家把這本書讀完的（巨厚）。預計在明年春天到來之前吧。一起加油喔！

*這裡顯然媽媽非常非常怕冷
I hung my jacket on the peg 掛鈎
I peered round the living-room door 凝視著，盯著看
His arm thrust deep between the cushions猛塞，擠
My five-year-old nephew was on his haunches 蹲坐著
Dad turned his face towards me, puce from exertion
*puce 深紫色
*exertion 用力
這裡是說因為費力，爸爸臉色發紫。
Now Obi can’t possibly have beige arms 米黃色
I looked up, just able to hear the familiar creak of the ironing board.咯吱聲
*這裡描寫Lou的媽媽正站在一個扶梯上給窗戶上油
He extracted his arm from the cushions and squinted at his watch 眯眼看斜眼看
Granddad was sitting in his chair by the kitchen window, studying a sudoku 數獨遊戲
She brandished a pair of socks 揮舞；炫耀
*此句是Lou的媽媽在問她，這是你的襪子嗎？所以是「揮舞」之意。
The words hung there, searing themselves on the little room long after the sound had died away 燒焦，凋謝
*此處是一個比喻，Lou向家人公布了自己失業的消息。這個消息明顯是個壞消息，就像一把火一樣，焚燒掉了談話的好氛圍。
I like arriving early at The Buttered Bun, firing up the huge tea urn 壺
*urn相當於pot
I liked the fuggy bacon-scented warmth of the café 悶熱的
Frank’s radio singing tinnily to itself in the corner 有氣無力的
*一個很地道的用法，這裡又是擬人手法。
The tables still sported Formica tops 炫耀地穿著
*這裡sport的意思是wear or display in an ostentatious or proud manner，Formica tops是福米卡家具塑料貼面
I liked the Dandelion Lady, nicknamed for her shock of white hair 蒲公英
*Dandelion lady是Lou一位顧客的綽號，因為這位女士滿頭白髮，像蒲公英一樣。
The shrieking schoolchildren 嘰嘰喳喳的，尖叫的
Frank, wiping his hands on his apron, had come out from behind the hotplate and turned the little Closed sign to face the street 電爐
Frank was, as Dad put it, as queer as a blue gnu
*queer=奇怪的
*gnu=角馬
I didn’t put salt in the sugar cellars again 窖
Well, that’s big of him, given she’s worked like a ruddy Trojan in that place for the last six years
*ruddy=面色紅潤的
*Trojan=特洛伊人；勤勉的人
這句話是Lou的爸爸在說，Lou失業得到了老闆Frank三個月薪水的補貼也是應該的，畢竟過去六年Lou在這家店兢兢業業地幹活。這裡的ruddy trojan是個比喻。
Oh, fecking marvelous
*這裡的e應該相當於u，這樣大家就懂了~類似的用法還有用shoot表示shit，是一種避免直接說粗話的婉轉。中文裡也有類似用法。
Louisa Clark is very good at buttering toast, and a dab hand with the old teapot
*be a dab (hand)at(或in) [口語]是…的能手；是…的專家
His boss had been muttering about possible redundancies for months. 咕噥嘟囔
There were murmurings at home about debts and the juggling of credit cards. 應接不暇的
*juggle 邊拋邊接(球等)；對…抓(握)不住；試圖持穩(或接穩)；力圖使平衡。因此這裡的juggling是個很形象的說法，就是說信用卡都還不及。
Dad had had his car written off by an uninsured driver two years previously. 註銷(如債款等)；
and somehow this had been enough for the whole teetering edifice that was my parents』 finances to finally collapse
*teeter 搖搖欲墜
*edifice大廈
合起來teetering edifice就是搖搖欲墜的大廈，危樓
Thomas watched me with big, round eyes, and silently handed me half a soggy biscuit. 溼乎乎的
Patrick was there in the gym or running in circles around the floodlit track. 照明的，泛光燈照明的
『Run with me,』 he puffed 喘粗氣
Am I allowed to just be a bit miserable and floppy?鬆懈，懶散
He had since acquired a business partner, Ginger Pete, offering personal training to clients over a 40-mile area, and two liveried vans on the HP. 穿制服的；穿規定服裝的
*這句話的意思是：他已經籤定了一個合作夥伴Ginger Pete,為方圓四十英裡的客戶提供私人培訓，還以分期付款的方式買了兩輛定製麵包車。HP= hire-purchase分期付款購買
He nudged me as we ran用肘輕推
Patrick was beginning to look exasperated惱火的
You can’t mope around, babe 消極度日
I had endured a brief stint filling in on a night shift at a chicken processing factory 一小段時間
I had realized pretty quickly that I was essentially being instructed to befuddle old people into switching energy suppliers. 糊弄

Even Syed, who wore the grimly cheerful demeanour of someone who had shoehorned the most unlikely candidates into a job, was starting to sound a little weary.
*grimly可怕地；冷酷地；嚴格地
*demeanour行為
* shoehorn 硬塞進；鞋拔
What, as in pantomime dame? 啞婦(啞劇中男角反串的滑稽女角)
*在英國啞劇裡，pantomime dame是個傳統角色。
No. And no to semi-nude bar staff. Or masseuse女按摩師
This appeared to stump him 把…難住
Night-time shelf stacking? 堆放
I gazed at thedoors, where two burly security men stood. 魁梧的
Well, then perhaps we』ll have to look further afield在遠處
Something droningly referred to on the news in relation to shipyards or car factories. 嗡嗡地
Syed’s voice broke into my reverie. 幻想，沉思
He’s a..a quadriplegic 四肢癱瘓者

PS：有沒有發現這期字變大了？其實是Livi從word複製過來，發現格式全亂套了。完全搞不定T T 就當做是保護你們的視力啦。如果發現某些單詞連在了一起，不要怪我。Livi修改格式已經修改的頭暈了。。
PS2：我知道大家的英語水平都不一樣，然後這個系列也只是Livi自己的私人閱讀筆記，肯定不完全適用於你們的情況，可能例句裡有的同學也會遇到很多生詞，沒關係，你們可以先看和自己水平合適的書，不一定跟著Livi的節奏來。當然如果勇於挑戰自我，那麼和LIvi一起讀完一定會有收穫的。
PS3：因為不是商業課程，所以Livi就把這些閱讀筆記做得稍微個性化了一些。總是，還是希望大家可以從Livi的分享中有所得：）
