Hi,my name is Kevin. I’m your English teacher with meisi.
嗨，我的名字是Kevin. 我是你們的美思英語老師。
During the Spring festival, some of my Chinese friends were excited to spend their holidays with their family, but at same time some people who were single also worried their parents would push them to get married. Today I’m going to go through some terms to help you describe being unmarried.
在春節期間，我的很多中國朋友很高興能夠和家人團聚， 但是也有一些單身的朋友擔心他們的父母會催婚。 今天，我們來一起學習一些來描述單身狀態的英文表達方式。
First, let’s learn some new words for different unmarried situations.
首先，我們先來學習一下一些表達不同單身狀態的單詞。
For men:
Bachelor 單身漢
Widower 鰥夫
Divorcée 離了婚的人
For women:
Bachelorette(usually mean young women) 單身女子
Widow 寡婦
Divorcée 離了婚的人（常用於女性）
Old maid 老姑娘
Spinster 老處女
Note: It’s not very polite to use the last two expressions; old maid and spinster
注意：old maid和spinster都是非常不禮貌的說法。
1. Are you married？
你結婚了嗎？
- I’m single/ a bachelor/a bachelorette.
我還是單身。
-I’m recently divorced.
我剛剛離婚。
2. She is not married yet?What’s wrong with her?
她還沒有結婚，她有什麼問題嗎？
-Her husband passed away 10 years ago,she has being a widow for a long time.
她的丈夫十年前去世了，她已經守寡很多年了。
-She has been married,but now she is a divorcee.
她結過婚，單身現在她離婚了。
3. If you’re over the ripe age of 30 and you’re not married, there’s nothing wrong with you. It doesn’t matter what other people think, as long as you’re happy!
如果你已經過了三十歲，還沒有結婚，沒有任何問題。別人怎麼想不重要，重要的是你自己快樂！
