Eating a Mango 吃芒果
Mom: Time for a snack.
媽媽：該吃加餐了。
Grandma gave me some fresh mangoes this morning.
奶奶早上給了我一些新鮮的芒果。
Mango以o結尾，複數形式加es。
Child: Yay! Mangoes are so good!
寶寶：耶！芒果可好吃了！
Mom: First, let's wash the mango.
媽媽：咱們先把芒果洗一洗。
Can you grab the cutting board, and I will grab the knife?
你把案板拿過來，我去拿刀，好嗎？
Child: Yup! I'll put it on the counter.
寶寶：好的。我把它放檯面上。
Mom: Alright, place the mango on the board
媽媽：好的，把芒果放在案板上，
and I'll cut it into three big slices:
我把它切成三大塊：
the two sides and a slice with the pit in it.
兩邊和有核的那塊。
See how I make sure to cut down from the top?
你看見我是怎麼從上往下切的了吧？
Child: One, two, three slices.
寶寶：一、二、三塊。
Mom: Very good.
媽媽：非常好。
Now, let's score it.
現在，咱們來切花刀。
Child: What does "score" mean?
寶寶：「切花刀」是什麼意思啊？
Mom: I'll show you.
媽媽：我給你演示一下。
I cut the side slices vertically in 5-6 places.
我把邊上這兩塊豎著切5到6刀。
(1) 邊上這兩塊既可以叫sides，也可以叫side slices。(2) Place是地方的意思，用在5-6個地方下刀表示切5-6刀。
I don't want to cut the skin.
不能切到皮。
Now, let's cut them horizontally,
現在，咱們橫著切，
maybe 6 places
6刀吧，
and gently because we don't want to cut the skin.
輕輕地，因為我們不想切到皮。
Child: Awesome!
寶寶：太棒了！
Mom: Now you hold the sides
媽媽：現在你拿著兩個邊，
and push the center up from the backside.
把中間從後面頂起來。
「頂」實質上是一種push-推的動作。
Child: Ta-da!
寶寶：嗒噠！
It looks like a little orange hedgehog.
它看起來像一隻橘黃色的小刺蝟。
Mom: It does.
媽媽：是呀。
Let's push the fruit off of the skin now and into the bowl using our fingers.
現在咱們用手把果肉從皮上摳下來，放碗裡。
(1) Fruit，果肉，亦可用flesh。(2) 摳是一種push-用力推的動作。
Child: Ready to eat.
寶寶：可以吃了。
Mom: Now let's eat the pit slice.
媽媽：現在咱們吃核這塊吧。
After we cut away what we can,
咱們把能切的都切下來，
we'll have to gnaw the mango off of it.
然後就得啃芒果了。
Gnaw 啃，讀作 [n:]，g不發音。
Make sure to get every last bit.
一定要都啃下來哦。
Child: All finished!
寶寶：都吃光了！
