Elizabeth: Oh, I do love this time of day. Shall we walkwhilethere"s still light? You know the clocks go back next week. It"llbe dark before five. I do hope you"re a walker.
Tony: I am.
Elizabeth: Good. I always think these meetings have far agreaterchance of success if the Prime Minister is a walker. As amatter offact, it"s how I think best, on my feet. I"ve never beenone forsitting around endlessly. A good walk in fresh air sortseverythingout. One in four, you said, wanted to get rid of me?
Tony: For about half an hour, but then you came down toLondon, and all that went away.
Elizabeth: I"ve never been hated like that before.
Tony: It must have been difficult.
Elizabeth: Yes. Very. Nowadays, people want glamour and tears, thegrand performance. I"m not very good at that. I never havebeen. Iprefer to keep my feelings to myself, and foolishly, Ibelieved thatwas what people wanted from their Queen - not to makea fuss, norwear one"s heart on one"s sleeve. Duty first, selfsecond. That"show I was brought up. That"s all I"ve everknown.
Tony: You were so young when you became Queen.
Elizabeth: Well. Yes. Yes, a girl. But I can see that theworldhas changed, and one must... modernize?
Tony: Well, perhaps that"s where I can help.

On the Death of Princess Dianaby Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Queen of the United Kingdom
The Queen spoke to the nation live at 6.00 p.m. on Friday,5Septr, from the Chinese Dining Room at Buckingham Palace, 1997
Since last Sunday"s dreadful news we have seen, throughoutBritainand around the world, an overwhelming expression of sadnessatDiana"s death.
We have all been trying in our different ways to cope. It isnoteasy to express a sense of loss, since the initial shock isoftensucceeded by a mixture of other feelings:disbelief, incomprehension, anger -- and concern for those whoremain.
We have all felt those emotions in these last few days. So whatIsay to you now, as your queen and as a grandmother, I say frommyheart.
First, I want to pay tribute to Diana myself. She wasanexceptional and gifted human being. In good times and bad, shenever lost her capacity to smile and laugh, nor to inspireotherswith her warmth and kindness.
I admired and respected her -- for her energy and commitmenttoothers, and especially for her devotion to her two boys.
This week at Balmoral, we have all been trying to help WilliamandHarry come to terms with the devastating loss that they and therestof us have suffered.
No one who knew Diana will ever forget her. Millions of otherswhonever met her, but felt they knew her, will remr her.
I for one believe that there are lessons to be drawn from herlifeand from the extraordinary and moving reaction to herdeath.
I share in your determination to cherish her memory.
This is also an opportunity for me, on behalf of my family, andespecially Prince Charles and William and Harry, to thank allofyou who have brought flowers, sent messages, and paid yourrespectsin so many ways to a remarkable person.
These acts of kindness have been a huge source of helpandcomfort.
Our thoughts are also with Diana"s family and the familiesofthose who died with her. I know that they too have drawnstrengthfrom what has happened since last weekend, as they seek tohealtheir sorrow and then to face the future without a lovedone.
I hope that tomorrow we can all, wherever we are, joininexpressing our grief at Diana"s loss, and gratitude forherall-too-short life.
It is a chance to show to the whole world the Britishnationunited in grief and respect.
May those who died rest in peace and may we, each and every oneofus, thank God for someone who made many, many people happy.

Funeral of Diana, Princess of Walesby Tony Blair
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and havenotlove, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.Andthough I have the gift of prophecy and understand allmysteries, and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that Icouldremove mountains, and have not love, I arn nothing. And thoughIbestow all my goods to feed the poor. and though I give my bodytobe burned. And have not love, it profiteth me nothing.Lovesuffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vauntethnotitself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly.seekethnot her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;rejoicethnot in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth allthings, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth allthings.
Love never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, theyshallfail; whether there be tongues. they shall cease; whethertliere beknowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part. Andweprophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, thenthatwhich is in part shall be done away.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child,Ithought as a child: hut when I became a man. I put awaychildishthings. For now we see through a glass darkly but then facetoface: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also Iamknown And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; butthegreatest of these is love.
AndIsalute her courage and her consistency, and I thank her becauseifit wasn"t for her, I most certainly would not be here. Ladiesandgentlemen, I give you the Queen!"
